What should I couple with catted X to make my Stang ROAR

Hey guys,

I have a '99 Saleen Mustang and added a Bassani catalytic X-pipe last December. The Saleen came stock with Borla exhaust, and maybe cat-back as well, I'm not sure? But, it still isn't that loud, and adding the Bassani X-pipe only made a small change to the exhaust sound.

I wanted to know your suggestions on what I should couple with this Bassani catted X-pipe. I already have the Chicane Center Exhaust kit too, and I will be installing this next week, after I decide on mufflers/cat-back, etc. If you're unfamiliar with the Chicane exhaust kit, it basically is just some end-pipes that rout the exhaust to exit out the center. It really has no contribution to sound.

I've heard that I should consider going with either Bassani Quiet Thunder cat-back, or Magnaflow cat-back. But, I'm wondering how much difference in sound will a cat-back add, compared to just welding in some Magnaflow mufflers, for example. Would a cat-back make much sense if I'm going to be replacing the end-pipes with the center exhaust kit?

Also, has anybody used/heard anything about the 14415/14416 Magnapack mufflers? Ninosport.com lists them as a 4x14" round muffler that requires custom installation. What kind of custom work needs to be done? Is it expensive?

All comments/suggestions are surely welcome.

Your borlas would sound awesome with and off road x-pipe.
Thats the route I went. That will save you some money and since you already have the catted x you can swap them back at emmisions time if you need.
And yes your car has a borla catback on it.
Mine is a 2003 so it came with a magnaflow catback.

Cnugget23, welcome to Stangnet! I saw an ad for the Chicane Center Exhaust setup in a magazine and it is really nice, different, but way cool. I'd love to have it, but a little rich for my blood, especially when you add the bumper piece to the package (if I remember correctly?!) Anyway, my personally choice for the classic Mustang sound is Flowmasters. I don't think you want a full cat back since most of the piping would be a waste. I would imagine all you'll need after the X pipe is the short pipes ahead of the mufflers, but these could be custom made in any good exhaust shop. I'm assuming the Chicane Center Exhaust kit includes all the piping behind the muffers? For some ideas on what would sound good to YOU, check out www.mustangexhaust.com . Lots of different mid pipe and muffler combos you can listen to. Registration is required but it is free and quick - crank up the speakers, you'll be drooling in minutes! Enjoy!

^^^Whoa! I just heard some clips of the SLP cat-back and that sounds wicked!

Thanks twogts4us too, I listened to several clips on mustangexhaust.com but the SLP I think kills it. Also I heard flowmasters, and x-pipes don't mix...

Go HoTO! where did you order the SLP from, where's the best site to get it from? Also do you know the diameter of the pipes? 2.5? or 2.25?

Hey, you can buy the SLP catback, cut out the mufflers and piping before the mufllers and weld it into the Chicane center exhuast setup. And the piping on the SLP is 2.5"
-By the way, Flows and X-pipes do mix :D :nice: SEE SIG. \/

SLP is really making a hit with Mustang owners. I almost hate to tell people because, maybe it won't be so unique anymore. :D

If you can, try to hear it in person. I know this is not always easy.

I got mine from www.mustangtuning.com. I believe it was around $350 and they don't charge for shipping. That is sort of their trademark.

Call them at 888-STANG-GT and ask for Chris or Pete.

Tell them I sent you.

I have SLP and an offroad X on my car...... It sounds better than any sound clip I've heard online. Most of the SLP sound clips Ive heard haven't sounded anything like it sounds in person.

Get SLP and you won't regret it...
