Hi guys, I have a little dilemma here...

I have a 1994 GT Convertible with 126K miles on it.

The only "real" things I've done to it was out 4.10's in it, and a performance trans that I spent $2k for 2 years ago.

The car runs good, but is showing its age.

The car was declared a total loss in 2005 after some ******* pulled out in front of me. The car took a direct hit in the right front which deployed the airbags. I had to replace the dash myself with a used one, and I also replaced the airbags myself from a Cobra. Since I was replacing the front end, I had the shop put on a Cobra bumper, hood and headlights. The entire car was also repainted. I replaced the one tire with 4 used oem takeoffs from a V6 until I could save for the Cobra rims. The steering wheel's cruise control buttons are still missing. I took the insurance check and had it repaired and used the rest to pay off the loan.

Then this summer another ******* pulled out in front of me causing me to jump a curb and hit a small tree which bent the rim and cracked the front bumper. But since it was a he said/she said, his insurance didn't pay and I only had liability.

The cars been sitting since, and I'm not sure what to do with it.

I was considering Ebay'ing it, but the kbb is only $1200. I really love the car, but I'm not driving it much anymore because to be honest I don't feel safe in it anymore. Not sure why, but it just feels like an accident waiting to happen. The thing is though, after putting $6000 into it between the repairs and the trans work, I can't see selling it for $1200.

Any thoughts?

Craigslist? Doesn't cost ya' anything to list it there, at least. Set it at a price you think is reasonable, make sure you note that it has a salvage title, and then see if you get any nibbles.

I know how you feel, I loved my 92 GT but did not feel safe in the car so I got rid of it. Your vert looks nice and we all know most Mustangs dont sell at book. Realisticly (spelling) the car is worth $2500-$3000 IMO. Dont know what to tell ya, get rid of her and start a new project or fix her up and keep her.

Learn how to drive
Get a set of balls
and fix her up, this is a hobby that you know you will spend thousands on and never get the return, if your looking to get money back when you sell the car, then dump it off now. Especially with the cost of gas, toy purchases by people are going to slow down big time. therefore its gonna be hard to get any more that what the book says it worth. I say keep it, fix it and drive it in the summertime.

Hey somebody had to cut the bull**** and give you the truth, no sugarcoating. You got to step up or cut your losses.

It doesn't have a salvage title, in Illinois if the car is 10 years or older a salvage title isn't required when the car is a total loss. Go figure. I still can't sell it without disclosing the prior damage, the whole conscious deal I guess.

And I already have a Honda as a daily driver, a 2004 Accord.

I was only driving the car on nice days in the summer time, which makes me just that much more unlucky I guess.

Thing is, I can't justify dumping even more money into the car to make everything right. It needs a new steering wheel (broken cruise buttons), a new top, a front bumper (although I'm sure only I can see the crack) and a new wheel/tire. The steering is also loose (just due to the 126K) so I think it needs a new steering box. Its not bad, just loose around center.

I'd rather just buy a really nice 98 cobra than to dump another $1500 into this.

Whats a fair price to sell it for?

Giving KBB another look they list it at $3,580 in fair condition even though the car has none of what they list as "fair" requirements. But I can't really call it good given it's history.

Just curious ... how can you not feel safe in a 'Stang? Try driving 75 mph in a Geo Metro daily, and you'll know how I've come to appreciate even the moderate safety of an old Fox by comparison.

You could always sell 'er and grab a Panther car - Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, or Town car. Lots of things you can do to hop 'em up, they're 5-star crash-safe, they're practically indestructible, and they don't cost a ton to buy used in VERY nice condition. Cheap insurance, too.

Well, I guess it's just what you get used to.

Again, my daily driver is fwd '04 Accord with six airbags, traction control, and all the creature comforts.

But that aside, I guess it's the fact that I drive this car so little and have been in two accidents within two years. It's like these idiots are attracted to this car.

Both times, I was just driving along and they pulled out right in front of me.

I should of just let them total it and started fresh.

put it on craigslist and see what you can do. or put it on ebay with a reserve and see what it does. it looks to be in good shape, try to get like 3 or something. kbb is always off. it cant be exact. my grandpa had a 99 malibu in 05 or so with like 9k on it. which is really good, and we took it to a dealer to see the trade in. they printed off a blue book for 1200. we sold it private party for like 5.5 - 6 ish. the blue book on my junk is like 2200 and i could sell it for like 4 im guessing.

Just drive the thing and do little repairs here and there.

Would you rather something happen to this car or a different car? Remember, it's a jungle out there.

hmm

So, really all that's wrong with it is that it has a cracked bumper and a bent rim?

I vote keep it and put new pads, rotors and do a brake fluid flush. That way if someone pulls out infront of you again you can stop ahead of time and avoid the accident.

The first thing I've done on all 4 of the Mustangs I have owned is to replace the pads, rotors and brake fluid. Tires too if they need it, after those things are done, then some go fast mods. I've had several people pull out infront of me before and had to lockup the wheels. Good brakes and tires will go a long way.

Fast cars are fun, but you can't enjoy them if you are dead.

Drive safe and watch out for the idiots.
