Performer intake, tb(if you want), and a MAF. It really depends on you goals of the car.

Used set of aluminum heads. Everything else will be gravy after those. But, it all depends on what you plan on doing with your car. I just picked up a set of GT-40 Y303 heads for less than $800. Will be doing the HCI swap next spring.

The heads are not going to give him the power he needs. The intake should always be first. The stock intake is the most restrictive thing on our car. Heads will not help then if he can't get the air there.

my goal with the car is to get it to run mid 12's and still keep it a daily driver. whats your thoughts on a trick flow intake instead of the performer, and what brand of MAF, i've heard good and bad about all the brands

Get pro-m of the meter. The trick flow is not a bad intake. I think it goes for unless than the eddy. I still think the eddy is better. The cobra, GT40 and explorer are the less best of the intakes but they still alot better than stock.

The problem with getting a MAF now is if you get HCI later you will most likely get new injectors which you will have to recalibrate the MAF. It only costs like $100 or so but still. Make a plan before you start buying that way you don't have to keep rebuying parts.

i was reading instructions on installing the trick flow intake and it said something about low profile valve covers, will that intake fit with stock valve covers?

I'd just save a few hundred more and get heads. Worry about the cheaper stuff later.

the #1 bottleneck on our cars is the lower intake. because of port matching, you should get an upper that goes with it as well. i got a trick flow street heat ($400), and it fits fine with my stock valve covers , but my strut tower brace doesn't fit. but i am ery happy with it.

#2 would be heads, but that would put you over your $1000 limit, so i would say maf/tb/injectors would be next.

make sure you match the maf with the injectors or you will run lean and the car will run like crap. i learned that lesson the hard way.

Another vote here for the intake. Do some browsing in the classifieds for used parts. You should be able to get a used Performer for under $400. The SN95 adapter will run another $100. I would also upgrade the tb to a FRPP 65mm and also get a Pro M 77 or 80mm mass air meter calibrated for 19lb squirters. This will put you right around a grand and why not go with some 1.7 roller rockers since you're there.

yeah id go with an aftermarket Intake as well...and ill suggest a Pro-M 80mm to go with it just so that while your doing all this you can build yourself a good homemade cold air for a nice setup....ill suggest the performer just on personal preference, but the Trickflow is fine...no matter what aftermarket intake you buy it WILL NOT fit under the stock strut tower brace, doesnt matter if its Edelbrock, Holley, Trick Flow, or even the Ford intakes (Cobra, GT-40, Explorer). So you will either need to ditch the brace or buy an aftermarket one that will fit. I say Intake now and not heads because i think i would hang myself if i took some beautiful aluminum Edelbrock heads, or AFRs or the sort and bolted that restrictive as hell stock manifold back to them.....and you wont see near the full gain of the heads with the stock intake.....

....just my $.02

Triple stack wing, neon underbody kit, stickers of every performance part you've used (and some you haven't) for your windows, and a vinyl graphic of an anime character for your side panels. Thats a solid 30 rwhp and the handling due to increased downforce will blow you away....

Got Traction? You're going to need it to run 12s and keep it a daily driver. I'd do rear upper/lower control arms and subframe connecters.

That should still leave you around $550-600 for stickers & wing and around $100 for intake/head upgrades : JD's is selling a set of tubular control arms (uppers & lowers) for $185 w/free shipping.

I'd also go for a C&L 76mm air meter and then do the intake. There are a lot of good used intakes, MAFs, etc... on eBay and the classified ads on all the major stang sites.
