What cam and heads should I run in my stock 302.

I recently picked up a 1991 foxbody get and want to get more power. The b303 seemed like it would be a waste of money because it doesn't add much power and the same thing goes for the GT40 and GT40 p heads.

I have a completely stock 302 down to the MAF. I slapped a Novi1220SL on it and it’s fun… when it’s running right. I got other issues unrelated to the supercharger I’m in the process of figuring out but for the money and ease of installation, forced induction is hard to beat.

I also have some TrickFlow twisted wedge heads that I haven’t put on yet… but I’m keeping my cam and intake stock.

I’m still running my stock HO cam and love it! I’m running 1.7 full roller rockers with.

Op, if you decide to pull your stock cam, don’t chuck it. People will pay good money for stock HO cams in good condition. They’re not as readily available as you might think. Makes me wonder how many have been thrown in the dumpster

The stock cam with 1.7’s… is there any sort of chop with that combo? I also have some 1.7 rockers I plan on putting atop the twisted wedge heads with the stock cam.

Not a big difference in stock idle characteristics really. The 1.7’s take the stock HO lift up from .444” to .472”. Negligible difference in duration. I’ll post an idle video of the exhaust sound tomorrow. I have one on file already but it has the idle speed at 1k so it’s not a good example. I’ve since lowered the idle .

2 approaches:
Affordable H/C/I (think GT40 and letter cam) + blower or turbo. The trick here is that if you can make 260+ to the tire n/a, then an intercooled turbo combo gets you to 500 rwhp by 15psi on pump gas, where sensible folks stop to prevent pushing the block too far. A little harder to achieve with a blower, due to more parasitic drag, but 450rwhp probably possible with an efficient centrifugal blower.

If you like the na approach, I've been blown away by the TFS 11R 190cc Heads with a Systemax intake, and I'd pair it with a TFS stage 2 or a custom cam. You can go with a lighter cam if you want even more driveability. Use the remainder for all the supporting parts. This combo has pushed 400 rwhp on several SBE combos.

For any of the above, you'll need to address the fuel system, some way to tune (Moates Quarterhorse is solid), and if you put a sticky tire on it then transmission and chassis, too.
