Hey everyone, Im sure you get these questions often but I am really curious about this and want some opinions.
My 97 GT is in the shop this week getting several modifications done, after everythings installed I will be getting a full SCT custom dyno tune, so I will know exactly what its making at that point, Im curious though about what I should expect. I know I shouldnt have wishful thinking about great HP having a npi 97.

Heres what I got and whats going in all together, he's one of the best mustang tuners in the Mid west and hes going to custom tune everything perfectly he says.

My signature says what mods I have, some of which are being installed this week such as the Bullitt suspension, MM CC plates, MM RLCA, Nitto NT555 extreme performance tires, FFRP 4.10s w barring kit and the SCT Dyno tune. After all this what should I be making (rough estimate)? After alls said and done the PI cam and Intake will be next to try and wake this car up. Any comments are appreciated!

believe me, you don't want to know what you're making. The only added power aspect of what you're putting on is the tune. If you figure out the power you make, it'll only depress you (or at least it's likely to). If you're happy with your car, numbers don't matter too much

under 200 RWHP. My best guess. Mine bone stock with CAI did 179 RWHP 2years ago. I am going to dyno it here in the next 2 weeks and I have changed plenum, TB, flywheel and PI intake so I will know where I stand here pretty soon.

why do you think so low, are they rated at about 210-215 what would cause a HP drop like that. And after a SCT dyno tune I would suspect it would be higher. I was thinking of around 230.

yeah well i should of said "hoping" for 230

With PI cams and PI intake should that number increase significantly?

IDK exact WHP on the PI motors..... But if you PI headswap you will make More power than 99+ 2V because NPI motors have Flat-Top Pistons.... MEaning PI will bump up your compression

around 230-235.

Keep in mind we are talking rear wheel horsepower here, not the broad horsepower claims of car companies. There is drivetrain loss, and your case around 20% over the 15% of a manual transmission

Ive heard a alot of opinions on whether or not its completely necessary to do the PI headswap with the cams and intake. I have been told its only good for around 5-10hp.
What I dont understand is though, aside from the PI heads, cams, and intake what make the stock 99-04 mustang gt so much more powerful than 96-98?

My thoughts on this were that the main power difference between them was caused from PI cams and Intake manifold. If I was to replace my NPI cams and intake I would assume that i would be making the same HP as a stock 99-04

they have PI heads cams and intake. The heads flow better than NPI heads.

PI headswap is worth ALOT more than 5-10HP.... The whole reason the NPI motors cant make very good power is poor head design. The NPI heads cant flow worth Jack and this is what made the car slow was the head design.

Ford knew the heads sucked and redesigned them in 99+ to fix the issue. They also had to redesign the intake manifold to fit the new Intake Ports and redesign the cam to perfect the power curve.

PI cams and Intake will not take you up too 99+ HP range because you dont have the heads. The Heads on 99+ are COMPLETELY different.... But since 96-98 2V had Flat top pistons you can do a PI headswap and get even higher compression then 99-04 cars.

I sent You a PM... Make Sure you Check it

There is a misconception that the NPI heads are the reason for the lack of HP. It's not. The restriction is the crappy intake manifold. I made 213 RWHP with just an intake swap, plenum and 70mmTB. My car with Comp 262's and a tune made 239 RWHP...with those "crappy" heads.

Do a search for posts by Johnny Langton here and on other Stang sites...he practically pioneered the staying NPI movement.

This at the flywheel not at the rear wheels. You have a loss of power through the trans and driveline of about 15% depending on type of trans. The difference between PI and NPI is valve and chamber size.

I personally I going to stay with my NPI heads and port them for better flow due to the fact that I eventually will S/C my car and I want the lower compression and still gain the horsepower that I would have achieved with the PI swap.

You would have sold your car if you were expecting to get 230 and came back with 180

I would totally to the PI head/cam/intake swap, if I were you. It will make a world of difference!

I guess I should get my sig in order for comparison...I'm doing just fine with my NPI heads...check My Garage for mods and 1/4 times.
