what size engine?

okay guys dont criticize me too much. i just bought a 04 mustang and trying to save up and buy parts to put in when my warranty is up. but anyways whats the biggest engine i can put in my stang without having to do some serious custom work? id like a 427 to put in there but my buddy said it wouldnt fit, i have a lot to learn obviously. if anyone has any links to sites, thatd be sweet. thanks

size doesnt matter (must be the third time i said that today ) anyways forget about a "bigger motor". the 4.6 is a beautiful motor with lots of potential. get a poweradder (supercharger, turbo) for a couple G's and save yourself a lot of $$.

sweet thanks for the info. usually people suggest going away from stock engines when you add FI if you run high boost (atleast 14 psi). will the stock 4.6 support atleast 500hp as a daily driver? i know when you add FI the realiability goes down but i didnt know the 4.6 was such a strong block. thanks, justin

I wouldn't reccomend this...but you can fit a big block in our cars. If you are going to do a bigblock though you gotta do this...I've wanted to see it done for so long...

i know you guys hear it all the time so dont complain. but why dont you guys suggest goin big blocks? by the way that is one sweet engine :druel:. like if i put that in and added 5 psi, id be very happy for a while.

Ford fit their V10 in the Stang, don't know what size though without some research.

Why not go for t he 5.0 Cammer crate, they have a 500hp version of that due out if it's not available already. But it costs a bundle like 14k plus.

500 hp??? i wouldnt push the block that far....i am shooting for around 420 HP (no pothead pun intended) for my daily driven stang. if your looking for something a little more serious check this out http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread.php?threadid=31042

There would be a lot involved in putting in a big block. Plus with that one I posted you'd never pass emissions. Nowadays you can make insane hp out of small blocks there isn't really a point to big blocks for the street. I still am diehard big block for life though!

yea thats what i was thinking. i wanna do everything and feel somewhat safe when i drive it around and not worry too much about the engine screwing up.

im looking at inheriting a good chunk of cash sometime in the near future. im looking at paying my car off and modding it to hell then saving the rest. i really dont wanna spend 14k on just the engine (who knows i might). i just wanna have a setup that a 03/04 cobra couldnt mess with, like a 750hp setup.

You will have a LOT of work to do in order to make the car handle a 750 HP setup. I would have purchased an older mustang because about the only thing that will stay the same in it is the body, seats and dashboard. You will have to completely modify the fuel system (tanks & pumps, fuel lines/rails, dyno tune A/F ratio), drivetrain (heavy duty 8.8-9" rear end, 31 spline axles, heavy duty clutch) that right there is a couple of thousand $. That doesnt even include the suspension components needed to put the power to the ground or get a crate engine built to handle that power. This gets VERY expensive VERY quickly, just a fair warning.

well i got my 04 gt for 20,600 tax, tag, title. im on "a plan" (wholesale). so i thought it was worth it. maybe ill buy a 99 v6 or something to mod up. yea i know atleast its not just throwing an engine and supercharger in and everything handling it.

if your going to do major work i would start with a more stable base than a V6, stick with a GT because it already has the wiring and fitment for a big V8 buildup.

Well if you want to put a big block in remember that the 460,427FE and 4.6 are all within 1/2 inch of each other in width. It would be pretty easy to put a carbed big block in there but if you have to put something like that in there just go with a 347 or a 351 stroked to 427. you can get the same power out of one of those without the weight.
