What superchargers work with 87 octane?

You MUST use 91 octane fuel or higher in order to avoid detonation and engine damage.

with low enough boost you 'could' make any forced induction work with 87 octane. however, there are many reasons why doing so would not make sense nor would it be particularly safe.

1) higher octanes prevent detonation. detonation can quickly cause severe/catastrophic engine damage. "blowing your motor"
2) if you are putting money down for a supercharger (3-6k), why would you want to settle with 87 oct when 91-93 is available at the pump and could produce 5-15 more hp?
3) most chips that come with supercharger kits are flashed for 91 oct (as california has 91 as max oct, and keeps the kit 50 state legal).

an anology would be you expanded your home and built another wing, but decided to pass on installing running water and fire alarms. if you are going to make such an investment, spend a tad more to make it safe and so you can get use out of it.

the only situation i would say running 87 oct with a s/c *might* be acceptable, is if you had virtually no funding and someone just gave you a s/c and you want to run 4-5 psi and found a chip or tuner that flashed for 87. even under those circumstances, i wouldn't do it.

Vortech, Paxton and Procharger provide great gains for about 3-5k depending what kit you get. You can actually build your own kit for about $1,500. Someone on the forum here has done it before around that cost.

The deal is you want all the hp you can get when laying down S/C money, which is considerable. You can run 87 octane with most of them...Just dial the timing way back and richen up the fuel mixture. Of course you just gave up 40 to 50 horsepower. Now you decide...

I would not to want to buy a SC to give up 40-50hp to save for 87. If that's the case, I would just get laughing gas

boost increases compression. even with the timing retarded significantly, you could get detenation just from the compression like a diesel with 87 octane.
