What swaps for a starter, dist. and Harmonic balancer?

You will need the balancer and timing cover / waterpump / and brackets off of the 86-93 mustang. You can also use a mustang starter and a distributor from an 84-85 mustang with a steel gear and vac. advance

Punisher got most of it... You will also need the oil pan, pump, pick-up, and dipstick from the mustang. I'd just go buy a new pump... They're cheap and it's good insurance.

You can use the Exploder starter, but it is the newer mini-starter used an '92 and up mustangs, so you will have to do a little re-wiring. it's a simple change and well worth it. Beat's the hell out of the ancient pre- '92 monsters. The existing starter wire should be on the neg. or switched side of the starter relay (side closest to the battery), move it to the pos. side (side with the battery cable and all the other wires), and attach the other end to the big lug on the new starter. Run a 10 gage wire from the small lug or terminal (the top one) on the starter to the neg. side of the relay and you're done.

For a dizzy, you will either need to go aftermarket with a steel or bronze gear, or get a reman. stocker from the local parts store. Ask for one from an '85 4v 5-speed mustang.. That is the ONLY year carbed cars came equipped with a roller cam. For $50 it's worth it. Just make sure it has the correct steel gear when you get it, sometimes they get it wrong. IMHO the factory Duraspark dizzy is just as good as any aftermarket unit for a DD or occasional strip car.
