What the heck!

I noticed some ticking coming from the passenger side of the engine (289) so I adjusted the rockers at TDC per Chiltons manual. After I did this the ticking has gone away but now it is running rough on this side of the engine. The engine is stock except the intake and carb. I took the car for a drive and it runs smooth but I don't want to cause any damage to the valvetrain. Time for a head rebuild?

Loosen each valve up 1/4 of a turn and see what happens because it sounds as if the valves are too tight (adjusted to far). You could try 1/8 turn first if you like.

Thanks for the advice. I backed them out 1/8 turn and now there's no ticking and no rough idle.
