I need to clean off some gasket leftover material on my heads, where the vavle covers gaskets, exhuast ports,etc.. go. And theres a little big of grime on them. Other wise there pretty clean.

I dont want to get them hot-tanked because there pretty clean besides the leftover gasket material.

I was thinking of either using some paint thinner (Solvent) or Brake Clean just to get the gakset junk off and a little of the grime.

Does this sound Ok or a bad idea? Just wanna make sure.

You can use a gasket scraper or a ziz wheel (as I call it anyway). Solvent will not hurt anything, so you can use that as well. I like to use a scraper to remove the solids, then before assembly, use a solvent to clean all gasket surfaces.
