Ok guys I was going to have a 331 motor built but some things have came up so now all I'm going to have to spend is $5000.
Well what I was and still want to do is build a dart block 331 and some time down the road put a turbo on it. Now since I only have 5k I want to go ahead and do something to the motor to get me closer to the finished product. Now I've thought about building the bottom end and then slowly doing the top. I also thought about doing the top end and slowly do the bottom. I also thought about just getting the turbo have fun with the stock motor(which I'll have to do a re-ring to) and slowly go from there. FYI I like to get up to 600 hp on motor one day.
So guys what would you do with 5k?

Tuff decision....starting with a bottem end provides good foundation for anything u wana do later....doing the topend first would add power but u wont get all the power as u would with a stroked bottem end....reringing the stock bottem end and adding a turbo would get u closest to where u wanna be the quickest, but if u break it its gnna cost u more in the long run....id talk to RNH and see what he can do for u

For me, That's a no-brainer. In fact my plan is just this. 5G's? turbo kit. The bigger the better, that way there is room to grow into it when you build the bad-boy engine later. I've talked to several folks that went with a big single turbo on a stock engine and pushed it close to 500 hp. (you don't have to push it that hard) The thing is, it's there when you need it later for a tougher engine and you won't have to upgrade. I've been waffling between a cheaper S/C and a turbo, but If I had the cabbage, turbo. Hands down.

I would go to the strip club and make it rain. Just kidding, I would either look into a turbo kit or a DSS short block for mine. Going the turbo route I would also probably try to pick a cheap, low mileage Explorer engine for back up.

I was in your shoes and waited until I have over $7K then I ordered a crate 347 as the foundation. I'd suggest if you have a high mileage stock block you wait until you get enough. I also redid the entire exhaust going huge MAC 1-3/4" Ceramic Coated Long Tubes, 3" Prochamber and 3" Catback w/ 3" Chrome Tips which was $1100 in itself. Then while was as it, tubular k-member and painting the engine bay. It add's up quick so have extra money.

I'm a picture poster to get a better idea so bare with me.

Trust me I've been keepin an eye out for some used short/long blocks I have found one that cause caught my eye it's a 347 dart block just trying to get the price right you know.
But it just might be me but sometimes it's hard for me to buy used stuff but I've been that way for the longest

Update..... I have decided to just go with the turbo and build a motor later. I think the turbo would keep my butt dyno happy till I get a chance to build a serious motor.
Thanks guys for your info.

Im the RNH...lol

My only suggestion with the On3 kit is make sure you get the Master Power turbo upgrade, do some searching and look at what guys are saying about the fitment and quality of the kit. At times you get what you pay for... Ive only had 2 of those kits come through my shop and I had to tweak both a little to fit like I thought they should, I also replaced the cheap flex joint with a higher quality unit.

You were thinking right the DART based foundation is a good choice! Good Luck, Enjoy it!

Rick 91GT.... What all tweaking did you have to do to make it fit right?
