what type tranny fluid for 98 Expedition!!!!!!!

my brother-in-law has an 98 (4 X 2) automatic w/ a 5.4 liter engine. He's having a hard time getting an answer to this question. Does Ford require a specific brand or type of fluid for this tranny?......

It is probably MV, but I would consult the owners manual or call the dealer and ask.

If I remember correctly it came from the factory with mercon 3

No such thing as MIII. You probably mean mercon/Dexron III.

It also can depend upon what fluid was put in there before (some elec trannies were retrofitted with MV for shudder control issues, even though they came with Mercon).

you are absolutely correct. From what i see on the fluid usage chart it depends on what tranny is in it.
