Well the bottom line is there is always someone faster no matter what. But in reality, a solid 300rwhp combo with GOOD traction will beat just about anything you will see on your regular day to day commute. I know I know there are exceptions of this that and the other thing, but generally speaking with that power you will be able to take quite alot of cars. However traction is very key and if that is dialed in I think a 300rwhp car can actually be pretty hard to beat around town.

Even the GTO's and camaros that you may keep up with will be completely stock and you'll get crap for losing with a modded car anyways.

If 300rwhp is fun enough for you, than great, but don't expect anyone to consider it anywhere near fast and don't waste for time racing people. Even if you won, than what? You have two slow cars!

Mustangs are just plain SLOW!!!! The only reason most of us are here is because of the aftermarket parts available.

Here is me barely pulling on a GTP. I ran 13.1 with this set-up. It was fun for awhile, but as soon as I was not able to pull on GTP's much I bought a turbo. I was making about 270 to the wheels with this set-up. I did take on a bunch of cars, but now there are the new camaros, challengers, chargers, evo's, and the new Z06's to worry about. Back in the day with LT1 camaros and trans ams running around, it was a different story. There are many stock daily drivers that will beat a 300hp mustang nowadays.

Rio95 is just a little on edge cause his car is still not together. The fact of the matter is if you plan on being the "fast guy around town" then 300 rwhp is not for you because it certainly is not going to give you that title. However I think there are plenty of people who can be completely satisfied with a 300 rwhp car. I however am not one of them, but can understand that some people are.

However, I do totally agree with rio that slightly beating a car like a GTO is quite embarrasing because you know the GTO isn't gonna go tell his friends he lost to a mustang, he will say the stang barely pulled on him. To really smoke the factory fast cars nowadays you better be into the 400s as far as rwhp goes.

Do you see anywhere in my post that I said that? No, I didn't think so. Hahaha, you took that a lil too personal big guy. Personally I think 400 rwhp is slow, but all I said was you better make in the 400s to at least put a good beating on the factory fast V-8s (GTOs etc)

To me 550rwhp is nothing special because myself and 3 other friends of mine have 500+ rwhp cars so it gets old after awhile. To me, to feel unbeatable on the street you would need 600, and even then there is always a faster car, but chances are you will never see it.

Btw, congrats on being "the fast guy".

To my way of thinking .......................

Threads like these always get side tracked cause we all have different ideas
about what is important or maybe you could say what is the most fun.

I think a lot of the time, peeps come on here and post up a thread such as this
one and what they are really looking for is ..............

some kind of idea or perspective of what a modded Stang that makes around
300 to the wheels is like.

As has been pointed out .... you got
some that are NA
some that are PA

Heck, with just the NA combos ...........
you got some that make 300rwhp ... but it is mostly peak

Now that kind of combo is gonna be very different from one that has 300rwhp
with a broad torque curve or as has been pointed out, a good average
amount of power.

The peak power combo is usually more suited at the track
and
The combo with a good average of power is gonna be nice for the street

You just can't use a certain value of rwhp
to define how the car is gonna behave

Xactly Grady. You can't take ONE aspect of a car and suggest that makes you faster than someone else - and several of you are DEAD wrong at the way you are approaching the entire subject. (even tho I like you guys)

Look at KC, his car had LESS than 300rwhp and he nearly ran 12 FLAT. 400rwhp rocks on the road lol. If you think 400rwhp is weak then you must need more practice at the track. There are many many guys on this forum that run very respectable times with 300-350rwhp alone. :SNSign:

As for getting an idea about performance

I really don't care for using 1/4 mile results to evaluate performance when
talking Street Cars.

Now ... I can say with no reservations what so ever .............

I been down the 1320 as many times as most here

So ... its not that I don't like Stangs that really shine at the local track

I'm just into the Street Car Thing these days so the application is different

I remember back around 95 or 96 when I decided to get back in this hobby
a fellow on that other Stang site had a very light Fox Coupe with a stick trans
that put down 286 to the wheels that went something like 11.70's or 80's

So you see ... 1/4 mile times can be so misleading cause weight and
driver skill can make such a H U G E difference

Anyway ... to the original poster ................

Just do the research and let the hard data tell you the REAL story

That is the great thing about these days

Plenty of peeps with modded Stangs have posted up their dyno results
and after a while ... it all becomes too plain ... what is what

Just decide how you want your Stang to perform and build accordingly

I do not think you can call anyone wrong on this subject. This subject is 100% opinion as far as what will make a person happy power wise.

Since you are referring to me when you made the 400rwhp reference I will respond by saying where do you get off telling me what is weak or powerful? Isn't that a person's opinion? I can understand if you have never been around very fast cars, but I have been surrounded by 500+rwhp cars for years from my friends to my car and ask anyone of us, 500+ doesn't seem that amazing anymore. Is it fast? Sure its fast, its really fast. However 400 rwhp to me just isn't that "crazy". I am not dense enough to say that a 400 rwhp car cannot be fast and fun, but that kind of power just isn't that impressive to me.

When I say 400rwhp is weak, I do not mean on the track. I am FULLY AWARE that that kind of power can run a great number, but on the road I would consider 400 weak.

Also, just an fyi, I have been down the track PLENTY of times and I find that irrelevant regarding my take on what is alot of power and what isn't.

I think the bottom line here is that you are confused in what I am saying. I am completely aware that 300-350 rwhp can run great times and I think that you are thinking that because you say I need practice at the track it must mean that I am the guy that takes a 300 rwhp car to the track and runs mid 13s. I am fully aware that 11s are possible with that kind of power. The fact is, a 300 rwhp car running 11s will never be as fun as a 500rwhp car that runs 11s. Just because the 300 setup hooks perfect and runs the number is irrelevant on the street. There is absolutely no power comparison. I would take the 500 car on the street any day of the week because it will be a million times more fun then a 300 car. I am blown away that you don't understand this.

I am not trying to get you upset here, and certainly do not want to make this a big argument. However this subject seems to be about everyone individual opinion, which no one can be wrong for having.

wow. I was not expecting this many responses. so many responses with so much info that when I was done reading I was a little unsure of what my question was in the first place.

I almost feel a little dumb for asking the question now though.

I just wanted to talk about what other people had been able to beat with 300RWHP, since that is where I plan to be one day.

Im pretty sure the average member power is below 300, so I dont think it is a petty goal. Everything here is only opinion, and should be taken as such.

I just want a strong nice daily driver that can turn a few heads and crank out no more than decent consistant track numbers WITH EASE once and a while (13 flat is all I want). I did not think that 300 would be enough for mid 11's, nor do I want to try to pull numbers that low. Later on, If 300 is not enough (which as far as I can tell is a very common thing to want more and more power) I can go bigger. For now, this is my dream.
