I got brand new tires about 4 months ago and one of them out back is gone from the outside(passenger side)? Why? Do the rear wheels get aligned also or is there something more serious like a bent axle?

95Vert,

The rear does not get aligned on our cars.

The more likely cause for a rear tire wearing unevenly is a bent wheel. Get an alignment shop to do a runout test on the wheel in question. That will tell you if it's bent.

also check that all your pivot points are operating correctly. Was the tire worn in little spots, or evenly around the edge.

If it was worn in patches, it could be a bent rim, or a horribly blown shock, or even a deteriorated (I cant spell) bushing.

you might want to chect the inside of the drivers side rear wheel and see if that is worn, if this is the case, you have a rear controll arm that is damaged, or badly worn.

Bent rim. warped rotor, worn suspension: contol arms, shocks, quads etc. Just about anything that has to do with the rearend could be a cause..

my money is on a bent housing. i've see it many times and you can tell by putting it on an alignment rack and measuring rear camber. any abnormal values will be your indicator.

camber very rarely wears tires that fast, it is your toe that will wear tires alot. If the camber were out enough to wear a tire like that, then it would be very obvious.

Thanks guys but my shocks, springs, and upper and lower control arms went on about a month before I bought the tires. Now that you guys mention it, I didn't have uneven treadwear before. What could it be since everything is new?

I noticed that after doing some counter clockwise donuts, the outside of my right rear tire seems a little more worn than the inside. I think that the momentum from the car made it eat more tread off of the outer part of the tire. Donuts eat up a ton of tread life after about 3 turns because of how hot the tires get, I have actually gotten hit in the arm by a piece of rubber off of my tire (stuck in my arm hair).
