Convert it to a Saleen-Roush-Cobra-hybrid. That would be so tight and not lame at all ...

wtf i just sold my 25k mile 03 GT with bolt ons for 13,500

IMO, my car looked better than a Cobra

It's not worth converting that car to a Cobra, you are looking at $5000 over the price of the car when its all said and done...and all you have is a GT with an idenity crisis.

Save up a bit more of a down payment and find either a Mach 1 or a Cobra of any year...they all kick ass in their own right.

What if you got beaten by an import...not only will they feel big because they beat a Mustang, but they also think they beat an 03 Cobra! Imagine the rioting that would result from that...

In the end, it's your car and your money. If you leave your GT stock, some will argue that it looks too plain. If you make it a Saleen, Roush, or Cobra clone, others will call it fake and stupid. It's impossible to satisfy everyone so do what makes YOU happy.

i can understand getting the cobra bumper and hood caue they look cooler and the vents are better on the hood but doing an all out "conversion" is just queer.

In the end I will still point and laugh at anybody driving a clone.

nothing wrong with tastefull body modifications.. clones are just offensive..

I think it's ok to use SOME of the body parts from a cobra or a saleen or roush but not all of them and make it look exactly like one of those cars.

If laughing at someone makes you feel superior then good for you.

I personally think it's stupid to get bent out of shape over something like this. Even though I've seen some BAD clone or modding attempts, I certainly will not be losing any sleep.

btw, here's a clone.

Call it cheesy or stupid if you want, but I doubt the owner would take any of our cars over that. Just proves how pointless it is to look down on someone because they chose to do something different.

Screw that price, for 18k get Mach 1. Around here 04 GTs are in the 14k range. Mach 1s in the 17.5-18.5k range, 99-01 cobras in the middle.

As for conversion prices for body parts.

550ish for 03/04 front bumper, lights, brackets etc. then add $ for painting - discontinued like the 99/01 so they are getting sparse.
285 for the 03/04 rear bumper cover then add $ for painting
Skirts mine were 300 painted and shipped to the house, $ varies a bit by color.
300 for the hood then add $ for paint
Badges - dont, either shave them, get something like a 4.6 or 281, or leave them alone.

Those estimates are on the low end, expect to pay even more than that. Also, add the parts listed below

$400 front brake kit w/ calipers
$200 rear cobra calipers
$180 rear brake conversion kit w/ brackets
$1,000 front and rear seats
$200 cobra steering wheels
$300 rear view mirrors
$300 rear spoiler plus cost of paint
$100 grill delete with cobra emblem
$40 pair cobra windshield wipers (yeah, they're totally different from the GT)
$30 pair of cobra gills for the side scoops (also different from GT)

and after all that money spent, you still have a GT. in order to justify all those 03/04 Cobra visual mods, you must then upgrade your engine to match the performance of the 03/04 Cobra.

$3500 forged short block
$5500 Kenne Bell competition
$2500 T-56 to handle the power
$1000 built rear end to handle power
$800 03/04 cobra gas tank and pumps

plus various other things as well as installation cost. so that comes out roughly around $18,000 in order to PROPERLY clone a GT into a 03/04 Cobra.

hes not doing an all out conversion. sounds like he just wants to look like a cobra, which is fine with me. as long as the GT badges stay on or all badges get removed entirely. putting cobra emblems and claiming its a cobra=bad/ghey.

I have the stage3 roush kit, saleen s281 wing, and FR500's on the way, and a GT500e paint scheme to code/specs. i dont claim it to be anything other than what it is, and right now, its just a stock GT with looks. It will never have roush, saleen or cobra badging even if it does ever reach the same performance level as those cars, its still a GT and it will stay a GT. though her nickname is "Eleanor" its only because thats the name everyone associates with the GT500e theme, and i knew a chick named eleanor and she was pretty hot, so is my GT, so it works.

but yeah, at that price of that GT, its gonna be easily 20k out the door (after tax, title, license, etc). you can get a nice cobra in the mid to low 20k range, just check out svtperformance's classifieds. i sold my cobra for 22k with 54k mi on it. so for just a few more grand and a couple bucks more a month you can get the real deal. the only advice i have is no GT is worth 18k now. most even with that mileage is under 14k private party, dont let the dealership rape you like i let them rape me (bought mine for 17k out the door, dam impulse decisions).

putting a roush KIT on your car is different from changing a bumper that looks the exact same except for saying "cobra" or "mustang" on it.

cliffs notes:

using cobra bumper and hood cause they're cool = cool
using all cobra stuff including badges = gay
using a kit to make your car look different (roush/saleen) = cool if you like wasting money on body kits.

I'd say cloning a car just shows the respect and admiration of that car....while it may not be the best economic decision in this instance. Its one thing to do it because you like the way it looks....and its another to do it to pretend like you have a Cobra so everyone else thinks you're cool. That'd be like me stuffing a sock down my pants to look like John Holmes.

Whoever said that it was ok to fake a Saleen but not a Cobra since a Saleen came with a 2v....that's just crazy. Nothing against Cobra's.....and I'm sure I'll be called a heretic.....but the Cobra is no God's gift to man. Its a 4v small block V8 with a supercharger that puts out 400hp....if you know anything about cars....that's no impressive feat.

Just like with anything in this world, some will make fun of you and some will like it. Those that make fun of others for silly stuff like this just need to get a life. I have far more important things in my life than to worry about if someone is driving a real Cobra or a fake one. Besides, this is where all those threads come from that are titled "I just smoked a Cobra".....too bad you didn't realize it was a fake.
