Well, rims for like $600 brand new from MustangTuning and i got my Sumitomo HTR-ZII's (245/40/18 and 285/35/18) for about $598, so less than $1200 shipped brand new. Better be a damn good deal to justify buying them for anything more than $850

If he paid $1600 for that setup new then he got screwed...why should he try to make it up by screwing you?

I say $800 tops!

I agree completely. The 295/35/18 Kumhos go for $216/each, so thats $432 for the rears. The front tires are smaller, so I dont see how they can add up to $468 for the $900 total. I guess he didnt shop around a lot and it cost him.

he said he'll "think about it" so Im taking that as a no. He said he's gonna see what he can get for them on the interweb, so he should soon find that no one is going to give him more than $800 when you can get the rims and tires new for $1100-$1200, depending on what tires you get.

I'll be patient, Im in no hurry to blow my money. If he says no, I'll just buy the rims new now and save for those KDW's.

Ok, a little off topic, but it's Helty's thread, so who cares! But a local tire shop quoted me 1600 bucks for 2 295/35/18 and 2 265/25/18 Goodyear F1's....mounted and balanced, etc. What a freakin rip!

One thing to think about, Sumitomo tires are not that great, I have them on my car now. I would rather have the Kumhos.

Kumhos arent that great either. I have ALL-SEASON Sumitomos and can pull 2.0 60's with them, so Im pretty sure I can pull the same or better with Summer tires.

Both brands are a cheaper alternative to the more expensive, better performing brands like Goodyear, BFG, etc. Besides, the damn things are used. Tires lose their value quick. Just bc he didnt shop around and paid $900 for them, doesnt mean Im gonna make up for it by over-paying on used tires that wont last through the end of the year.

Killy, I have it al planned out. I'll give him until Tuesday and just say "You know what, I think I just want to buy new rims/tires, thanks anyway." Then he'll see his only offer walking away while he has a few days to try and sell them. He'll come around and if he doesnt, I'll buy the rims new and save my pennies for some KDW2's.

I never said that you should over pay or even to get them. I just said that Kumhos are better tires than Sumitomos. I have the 315 sumitomos and they are ok, but dont grip much better than the stock 245 goodyears.

I know what you were getting at, but I still dont think Kumhos are much better than Sumis. Both are a cheaper alternative to better brands. Either way, the Kumhos are used so its a moot point. If they were new, then yeah I could see debating Kumhos vs. Sumis, but they're not.

Either way, if he doesnt sell me the rims/tires and I end up buying everything new, I wont be getting Sumis. Im just using that to show him I CAN get everything brand new for a little more than what he wants for his used stuff. Just a means of negotioating to get a good deal. If I get new rims I'll save up for some DSG-3s or BFG KDW2s.

Ahhh.. copyin me, are ya?

Hahaha just kidding!.. Good choice, either tire will be great.. I'd get GS-D3, but they're a LOT more expensive than the KDW2's that I have seen. Your money, your call.. either way you'll end up with a kickass tire/rim combo
