Hello Again Guys,

A few posts back, under "Blown Engine???", I explained how I may need a new engine in my early build 2001 gt. Now I am asking, when I find one, what years will be a DIRECT drop in. Is there anything that I have to be concerned with, or look out for when getting one. In other words, will any year up to 2004 work????

Thanks again,

Dale in San Antonio

99-04 are direct drop ins. The only difference would be if your supercharged. In that case 99 -00 have larger bolts in the timing cover than 01-04. If its N/A,any thing from 99-04 will bolt right up.

also 99-mid 01 used 8 bolt flywheel (01-04 went back to 6 bolt)

so if the engine your buying comes with a 5 speed flywheel you should be fine

03/04 have 21# injectors, while the earlier models had 19#. I would think since so many tuners are always pushing "calibrate the MAF for the injectors!" .. that perhaps if you use the 21's, you'd need to change a setting or 2 in the PCM.

Your not thinking about dropping in a STOCK engine are you?

Just spend the extra cash and buy a forged motor from VT or MPH. You can use the heads from your old engine.

If you read his other post, it is a 2001. He has had the car since it was new, and never did any mods to the engine. Unless he has suddenly changed his mind, a forged motor is a waste, and a stock replacement is perfectly fine for his daily driver.
