Electrical What Year Fox HVAC boxes interchange?

Can an 87 up hvac box be swapped into a 79 fox? heat and refrig connections? Controls?

I think that 79-83 are a direct swap.

The color of the backlighting changed to red in 1984.

Not sure if the later controls can be modified to work

I believe the 87-93 box is too different to work in a 4-eye car, mainly in terms of how the dash mates up and the registers line up to the output of the box.

This one is from a 1981 and appears slightly differnt in terms of where the vents and stuff come out for the floor. Can parts be mixed and matched? Unsure would need both boxes in front of me
