i thought i would post these pics of two pistons that came out of my shortblock... it is just funny to me how these are as trashed as they are yet i dont have a single mark on the cylinder walls, nor are the valves in those cylinders messed up in any way .... the bearings from these two pistons are totally trashed so me and my buddy are figuring the previous owner had a lot of detonation issues...

yeah i havent either, but the other funny thing is that the engine ran awesome WOT and it never smoked not one bit even though half of the top ring was missing along with the pieces of piston

i dont know how to be honest... i bought this car from someone who had just rbeuilt the engine... it was supposedly a forged bottom end..but these are hypereutectic's. when i bought it i test drove it, and it didnt smoke and ran extremely well at WOT, and it drove good just had an idle issue... i am not sure how long these had been damaged or what damaged them, but i tore the motor down without putting 20 miles on it since i bought it to put a bigger cam in it and some twisted wedge heads, only to find this...

oh well i guess it is time for a stroker now..lol

i thought the same thing, but then i got to talking with the guy i bought my car from and he has never even owned a nitrous kit, but he said that car ran best with 19 degrees of initial timing, and i know all he ever ran in that car was 87 octane gas, so i am assuming this was a common case of the detonation

19* with 89....hmmmmmm not insane but definitely pushing it!!!!!! i think you got the only reasonable answer. it probably wold have started to smoke or something drastic in some miles down the road......good luck man! sorry to hear that! i hae to hear you buy something that was fudging up...... ah well buy a cheapy short and some new pistons.....or do crazy and sawp in a stroker/cobra engine/or BB!!!!! personally i would have left it alone and ran the ****zers out of it till it broke. j/k man! good luck with it all. dont seem to be a challenge for you since you took those out.....
