yeah as you can see i'm new to this. whats a stroker, and what do i need to do to make my 302 one, what would it be after that ? my rear main seal is leaking, so i was either going to pull the tranny and do a 5-speed swap or pull the motor and rebuild it. just trying to figure out which way to go.

A "stroker" is a motor in which the cubic inch displacement (cid) has been increased by increasing the stroke length. There are three factors that determine a motors cid. One is the number of cylinders, in our case, 8. The second is the bore which is the diameter of the piston. The third is the stroke which is the distance that the piston travels up and down.

Stroker motors require a complete rebuild as the crankshaft, pistons, and connecting rods are all swapped. They are not a simple bolt-on mod.

The two most common cid stroker kits for the 5.0L are the 331 (4.03" bore x 3.25" stroke) and 347 (4.03" bore x 3.4" stroke).

Can't say it better myself.

:stupid:

Plus I think you have to get the block machine/clearanced:shrug: so the rods don't hit on the block.

I believe that's only true for the 347 (?).

The 331 still needs like a 1/4" of clearance machined into it.

on edit: I just looked into it because I figured my memory needed a refresh too. CHP says no clearancing is needed, but my old machine shop guru, said there was. I'd probably side with CHP on the matter.
