What's better 17" or 18" for 99-04 mustangs?

You know, I ran into an 01+ GT today with the stock bullitt 17's, and it had a really nice drop on it. Maybe around .5 to an 1" of gap from the tire to the body and it looked good, almost maybe perfect balance. I used to like the tiny low profile tires, but have grown to like showing alittle bit of tire on a "muscle car" to get that rugged, tire gripping look. 18's kind of lose the muscle car look when you have 35 or less series tires. Heck I have 35 series tires on my rears but that's because they are 315's on the 17x10.5 rim. I personally think it's decieving when the car has a nice drop and 17's, they look closer to 18's and 18's look more like 19's too me with the same suspension. If you have a drop more than 1.5" go 17's, anything less consider 18's. I'm more of a balanced look and not a DUB look, plus I think you'll love the performance and cash you will save doing 17's, just my 2 cents.

Only if you run chrome wheels like Zinik. I think the American Racing Shelby Wheels in 20" look show car nice.

My 18x10, 18x9's are lighter than my stock 17x8's. I went with FR500's with paintcode matched centers. I love em!

I think even with my car dropped 17s still dont fill the gap right and I dont think 18s would be where I want it....I think 19s with a drop would look perfect on a stang...

Although i might just end up getting 18s later down the road...

maybe I'm missing something but how does an 18" wheel with a 275/35 or 315/30tire fill up the wheel well any better than a 17" with a 275/40 or 315/35 tire?...they are all right at 25 3/4" inches tall???

Yes, but you buy a rim for its looks while you don't buy a tire for its side wall appearance.

but that doesn't address why a 18" wheel allegedly "fills the wheel well better"

(and FYI, a lot of people are concerned about how the wheel and tire combination look together, and that includes the tire sidewall height and shape )

I like my DD 18x9 up front and DD 18x10 in the rear.

I don't think it is the fact that the wheel/tire combo fills up the wheel well better, I feel it is that the wheel itself just looks too small in a 17". 17 would be my second pic. I am going to buy some DR's for my stocker 17's when I feel like doing a little racing.
