What's everybody's feelings on the typhoon intakes?

This may be the next step along with some cams so I was curious as to what the thoughts are on this thing. I'm not too famililar with it so if someone could school me a bit I would appreciate it. Could I run this intake without cams or would it be a waste basically?

I got one.. not to bad. didn't see alot of power maybe better throttle response.. I bought mine b/c I have N2O and plan to go turbo in a few months. Its kinda odd but I did see better pull from 3500 ish to 4500 ish, not what I thought i would get considering the shortened runners. BUT if you get one I HIGHLY recommend that you take it to a machine shop and have the threads that hold the alternator brackets and the bolts holes for the plenum heli-coiled. The aluminum threads looked weak. I don't have cams yet, with cams you are supposed to get 20 hp more than cams alone.

It is a good looking intake but doesn't do much for performance in a new edge NA stock head car. If I remember right the typhoon intake makes a bigger impact in the 96-98 cars. It just simply isn't the limiting factor from the mods in your sig and would offer low bang for buck. Even with cams, what gives you the most power NA would be some better heads. Take a look at the trickflow 38cc heads on the summit site (I was looking at them but ended up just going with cams instead of h/c).

If you are adding nitrous than it might be up your alley.

They are junk, I've seen them lose power on N/A and turbo'd cars. They heat soak, better off sticking with the stocker or getting one of the eddy intake IF you have cams or some type of power adder.

They are junk. Do a google search and you will see. There are all kinds of reports of them not sealing up and even leaking coolant right off the bat.

Got my answer, thanks guys! Guess I will look in a different direction, probably the hi-tech stage 2 cams I'm thinking.

There is the TFS intake which looks pretty good, but it isn't cheap.

Honestly, buying an intake for a N/A 4.6 is kind of a waste of $ unless you're going with a more aggressive cam setup and plan on spinning the engine a bit into the 6k+ zone.

The Edelbrock intake is an awesome piece, but it's more for engines that will be seeing higher RPM. There's a few people on here that say they didn't notice much of a low-end loss, so that's a bonus if you decided to go that route.

The Trickflow intake is nice also, but on an N/A car it's not an ideal setup considering the cost.

The Typhoon is strictly love or hate. I know someone personally who had one on his GT, and after some cleaning up of the runners and mild porting he picked up 20rwhp on a cammed GT. I have seen several people posting on here that they know people that have lost power, but only known a person or two that was first-hand dis-satisfied with the intake (which still says a lot). They're heavy, hold heat, and they're fairly similar to a PI intake. Not a real big winner unless you're boosted.

Do I have an opinion on the typhoon, no. But, if you are like me and usally strapped for cash, IMO you should spend your cash on the mods you are gonna pay less for and be able to use, the intake would only come in play if you have a coolant leak from your plastic one and need an upgrade.
Or, your are gonna go forced induction real soon.
There are probaly more functioning metal intakes out there for way less cash. Just do your research.

i bought the typhoon intake because my plastic one started leaking and one day i might put the stang on the bottle i really dont know if i picked up any power becuase i never had my car dynoed with my stock intake but i can tell u it does seem to pull harder in the higher rpms and i can push my car a lil further ... i do have cms stage 1 cams
