Digital Tuning What's Needed For Fi Dyno Tuning

So I'm welding up my manifolds for my v6 turbo and It just occurred to me I'm not too familiar with what I'll need for a dyno tune once the turbo is on and ready to go my question is what do I need computer wise I don't have the money for a standalone but I heard somewhere that I needed to buy and sct handheld tuner then I'll take it to a dyno tuner and they'll take care of it from there is it really just that simple? If it is what a the process do they dyno tune it then upload the file through the handheld or what?? It's a 2001 v6 manual

I am in no way stating this as a fact,but purely an opinion. I believe the cost of a hand held tuner and dyno run will surpas the cost of a standalone ecu.
Mega squirt is a very popular standalone with a good following,with a lot of resources / help available on this site. @a91what runs the MS help thread/Tuning section,and may be able to help you make your decision on how you’d like to tune your turbo car.
Speaking of your turbo car,I’d like to check that out,of time allows-start up a progress/build thread . And- Welcome to Stangnet

It all depends on where you live, does this car need to pass emissions? Is it just a racecar? Streetcar?

Then you should call the shop you plan to take the car too for tuning. See what they recommend for you, no sense in buying something if it is not compatible with there tuning software.

I agree but wouldn't a stand alone still need to be tuned I don't have the tuning capabilities

I live in the good ole state of Texas were your allowed to drive tuners big engine swap cars etc on the street so emissions isn't really an issue

My first round of advice will be sufficient then call around and see what the tuners in your area recommend.

Also thanks for the amount of interest I will open a new thread later as a build thread but it would take to long since as soon I weld my manifold ima have to piece the rest of the turbo kit and then it'll take me even longer to save up money for the tune and whatever other nonesence I'll need

This does not apply to all of us from the Great state of Texas. Those of us living in a major met area such as Houston or Dallas still have to contend with passing an ODB2 emissions check.

Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.

I didn't know this about Texas inspections until I looked it up. My 2000 GT only has 6 more years before no more emission tests needed.

Vehicles 2 through 24 years old OR upon expiration of the two-year initial inspection sticker.

Yea lol i know I just didn't find that a priority right now I just want to know about the dyno tune and what's the most cost effective way to go about doing it
