The title asks the question. My first GT was an 01 GT manual that I loved and drove for almost 160K miles. Been driving a Mini Cooper S with the automatic triptronic or something like that. I've actually really loved the way I can use the auto like an sequential manual: pull it back to upshift, forward to downshif. It shifts fast and does what I tell it to.

I am seriously considering a '13 GT and although I can't imagine not getting a manual I have really liked the mini tranny. So, for those who drive the automatic selectShift...what's it like and how does it work?

To be honest its the best auto I've ever experienced. I came from a GT 5 speed and was, still am, surprised how much I like it. The car itself is also pretty amazing to drive: you can just throw it into corners, brake scary late and its just on rails. But, its a BMW and now that its got some miles on it I'm afraid of it breaking down. My former GT was the best car I've ever owned. 165K flawless miles. I miss the muscle, sound, and ride of the stang and when the 5.0 came out well... How can you not want that?

I don't like the push-button format. I wish they would have you push the stick over into the sport mode and then move the whole thing forward and back (like it is on most tip cars). Paddle shifters wouldnt be bad either.

Minis are legit. I still think I'd go for a manual, though.

Yep. A couple of friends have Cooper S' and they are great little cars. Both manuals. I *know* I'd go for a manual.

I really like mine now that I adjusted the tune. Shifts instanly now and makes it much more fun to drive.

I personally don't really care to shift with a button on the side of the shifter. I use it mainly as a overdrive lock out or to hold a gear going down a grade. 99% of the time I leave it in drive. If you really want to shift, get a stick.
