I just took some part of my vinyl top off to check if there is any rust under, I got lucky and didnt find any as of yet (CA car). What is the best way to remove the adhesive? Can I use peel away? I read a lot of people use a DA sander, but I dont have one. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

The best stuff I have ever used to remove any kind of adhesive is 3M Adhesive Remover....it's amazing stuff. I got it at an auto paint store.

I've used starter fluid (spray either) sucessfully on fresher adhesives, but don't know how well it would work with "petrified 40 year old stuff"

Agree with 68keyblr, the 3M product is good. I is a really good cleaner and won't eat up your paint.

3M Adhesive Remover +.

PeelAway is terrible for adhesives. It kind of semi-de-gums the adhesive making it a stringy mess that takes forever to get off.

I always use Brake Kleen and a scuff pad to get adhesives off. Speedy and clean.
