Whats the top speed?

Just trying to find out what the "official" top speed was listed as in the 96-98 Cobras. I have heard all kinds of numbers, but it seems like 162 was mentioned in a Ford press release. Is that close?

Can it bury its speedo stock?

Around 150 stock, pretty much all 4.6 Mustangs (dunno if auto's are different) will get very close to 150 mph, some just get there quicker, like the Cobra's and PI GT's.

had my speedo buried on my 96 gt,maxed out all the gears,shifted into 5th at 6k rpm and was at right around 147,once in 5th had it prob 152 or so with stock 327s and exhaust.takes forever to get there though,3 am run on the parkway with a porshe haha

Ive had my mach up to 145 & backed off. I think it could go about 160ish, although the factory speedo goes up to 150...

i bet your Cobra could do 160, especially since u have 3:27's, & your speedo goes up to 160 too....

Factory I know the 99-04 cobras and mach are limited to 155-158 from what I read. GTs were not limited because they couldnt go that fast (somehwere around 145-150).
if yours isnt limited then I say 160 should be possible.

my gt bone stock did the best of 139-140mph with all she got
now my stroker,it is a diferent story,I have it 150+ and she still was pullig strong,

I think they can do 160MPH, although i've never tried.

I've been to ~140 in my GT.



I think the 99+ Cobras and Machs are limited to 155 for aerodynamic reasons. They tend to want to lift past that speed.


The Cobra R doesn't have a limiter, but if you noticed, it has a big ass wing and front splitter

with stock gears, i hit 149 mph...with 4.10s i hit 145 mph...
