It may be a factory thing. My 92 Sable even has the same plug at the same location. I'd love to know since its weird!

Weird Plug

I noticed the same plug on my 91 5.0. It does not appear to come apart. The plug does not plug into anything.

Looks like the DRL connector. It's not used on US vehicles (Canada started to require DRLs in 1990) so it has a weatherproof cap covering the connector (the cap should have a p/n F0EB-14A624-A. Normally it would be located inside the fender.

You might want to make sure there aren't any adverse effects to the lighting circuits if you cut the harness. The cap is actually a shorting plug that connects two of the circuits.

I have that plug on my 91... however my buddy's 89 does not .... what is the difference between those 2 years?.... Airbag! The connector acts like a spout connecting 3 cicuits and there are 3 airbag sensors.. I cut mine out the other day haven't noticed any adverse affects but the car is apart getting twin T04Es so I haven't driven it.
