can i put a edelbrock performer rpm air gap intake with a 625-cfm road demon on a stock 351w h code 2bbl and will it clear the hood of a 65 mustang?

it should fit with a drop base style air cleaner.

It will be tight, but I think rbohm is correct about a drop base...
Or at least it is that way with a Stealth. The AG isn't taller, is it?

What engine mounts are you using?
65 had 2 styles, one of which puts the engine lower in the bay...
It could be so tight that using the lower mounts would make the difference.

FYI, if you ever need an air cleaner with the absolute maximum drop, try a repro air cleaner from a '69 Corvette with a 427. It nearly swallows the entire carb, but does have a deeper drop than any aftermarket base I've ever seen and looks like any other generic round air cleaner.

the 66-70 mounts have a single bolt that goes through the chassis end of the mount in a horizontal fashion. the 65 and earlier mounts are similar to the fox body mounts in that they have the bolt attached to the mount itself, and it goes vertically into the chassis mount, and is held in place with a nut.

the 65 model year was the change over point to the later mount. you will have to look and see which mount you have. most likely you have the earlier mount, unless your stang was built late in the year.

the early mount IS the lower mount. the later mount raises the engine up a bit.
