So I took a trip to PA this weekend, filled up in NY before I left, averaged 19 mpg highway @75 :notnice: . Filled up in PA, same trip back, averaged 27mpg @75. Whats different with our gas? I even went to a Mobil station both in NY and PA.

There was a great editorial in C/D last month about gas and why it cost's so much there are only 4-5 states that have the same formulation of gas New york is following cali's lead on all the polution BS and they probably have oxygenated gas versus PA doesn't or very little. I remember when I lived in denver they switched gas between summer and winter they ran that oxygenated garbage in winter to cut down on the smog cloud that hung over the city, you could definetly tell the difference in performance between the two that just might be the case in NY. IMO

While it might not explain the total delta in mpg, I suspect when you filled the car up in NY, the pump clicked off a little early not filling the tank up completely. Now the next time you filled up in PA, you did fill it up compeletely because the pump work correctly giving the illusion that you used more gas per tank. Just a theory or it could be the "taking Lives" movie that I just watched is creeping into my brain?
