Hey all.

I have a 8.8 rear with 3.02 gears on 5 leaf springs, I have massive wheel hop off the line. I bought traction bars but the bracket doesn't fit so I'm making my own.

Will these help at all or should I do something else?

Are they the weld in kind? if so, thats what I used and they made a night and day difference- I have not experienced axle hop since putting them in.

I used the cheapo Lakewood slapper bars and they worked great for wheel hop.
Just gotta make sure they are 'dialed in' correctly.
You cannot just bolt them up any old way and expect them to work.
You ever see guys running around with the bars pointing down? Looking like they won't even clear a speed bump without spearing it?
Those bars were just slapped on and not tuned. They won't work.
You gotta adjust the snubber, position the bars just so, and shim the mounts to get what works on your car. They even make a variety of snubber shapes and sizes to fine tune even more. You can also get poly snubbers.

How are your motor mounts doing? A set of new PU mounts cured my hop - had really worn OE mounts.

Yes they are the weld in kind.
It's going on a 66. I have new motor mounts.

You may want to verify pinion and drivetrain angles as well. The 8.8 will have required that someone weld on the leaf spring perches. If they had a bad day, I've heard angles way off that contribute to wheel hop.

I also have crazy wheel hop on my car.
Ford 9" 3.89,shelby underrider traction bars, 382 RWHP
I am having a set of Maier Racing 160lb. Leafs installed.
What I have been told is that these leafs are "biased" towards the front and thus
prevent axle wrap up that causes wheel hop.
I will let you know if it works

Is this only a problem with manual transmissions? Mine has never even hinted at wheel hop. Street tire and slicks have both been on the car along with original and beefed up leafs with no traction device. Maybe it is not powerful enough. I guess if I ever get around to converting to a toploader, I better plan on traction bars.

Edit: the car has been 1.6022 in 60'. I think it is making enough power. Must be the clutch bitting y'all.

Not to bring up a old thread. But I got the traction bars on and subframe connectors and I still experience wheel hop. I'm going for a wrong pinion angle. Anyone know what is a good angle or what it's supposed to be?

Im not sure what to tell ya, but maybe a couple pictures might help. There may be something you think is setup right, but pictures may show otherwise. Just a thought.

If you go back to my previous post #11 I discussed what my plans were for resolving my problem. I now have the Maier racing 160lb front biased leafs installed and I no longer have ANY wheel hop.

Interestingly after I put on the traction bars awhile back (2 years ago) the axle hop problem seemed to be completely resolved, until I went to the track this past Sunday.

It was not as bad as in the past, and didn't happen on every run, but I was still getting some hop.

I assume this a 65-73 Stang. Here's what worked and didn't work for me. Use to run old style traction bars w/ snubber, worked fine on street but had wheelhop at track. Got serious about dragging and put on some shelby style M-1 Casting underide bars w/ kyb shocks. On the street it did fine, at the track it was still wheelhoping pretty good. Installed some Rancho 9 way adjustable rear shocks and put spring claps on the front half of each spring, 3 per side. Clamps are cheap and easy to install. This combo completely cured any wheelhop. I can launch as hard as i want now and not hint of hopping...

Here you go, also I run 1" lowering blocks, doubt it helps wheelhop but got the stance i wanted. The Rancho shocks are great, on the street I set them on 3 which is a softer ride, at the track i just bump them up a few turns on the dial and I'm ready to make some passes, hope this helps. I got my spring clamps off ebay, I think they were about $4 dollars per...

Had Lakewood slapper style bars on a 66FB KGT which controlled the wheel hop for the drag racing period. Got into Autox'ing and started to experience hop under braking. I ditched the bars in favor of less unsprung weight and tried to control the hop using spring clamps with moderate success. I installed GW Delum bushings and HD shackles w/poly bushing on the stock leafs. I'm not sure how, but that totally eliminated wheel hop under braking and acceleration. I always supported the theory that it was caused by spring wrap up. IMHO, this was one of the best suspension improvements I made to the car.
