wheel hop question

So I put on the slicks today and experenced wheel hop. Something I didn't experience with my other tires since the didn't hook worth a crap. I have mac lowers 50/50 shocks and 91/10 front struts. Would a good pair of uppers take care of the problem. The wheel hop is not terrible but would like to completly eliminate it.

I don't think uppers will solve the problem. I have seen many 9 and 10 second cars with stock uppers. Although you might want to take them off and inspect the bushings on them as well as the bushings in the upper part of the axle housing. You said you have MAC lowers...thats good. Did you have quad shocks on there still, or are those removed??

I agree a good set of uppers will probably help but it could be that your bushings are getting worn and they need to be replaced. That being said i guess it could be your stock uppers that are worn out aswell.

replacement quads can be bought as p/n 14039 Gabriel, it will be mislabled as a steering damper.

Traction bars might also help since you are running slicks.

No One that says you dont need Quad Shocks has any Factual Basis for why that could be. Just that it worked for them or a Friend, for everyone of them there is somebody who did not get so lucky, but the No Quads people have no explanation for them because they dont understand whats going on back there in the first place!

Quad shocks are needed only with stock suspension. Once you get drag radials and upper and lower control arms, toss the suckers!

Well my turbo car still has quads. I actually didn't have them and my car used to wheel hop bad. But i put a set of koni's and it went away.They work good,but check your bushings first.

Once again the Myth gets dragged on! There is so much more than just taking Compliance out of the LCAs, there is Compliance in the UCAs also, and if you have a car with NO Compliance you are going to be one of the Guys crying about why your Torque Boxes are ripped out of the car. The rest of us that have Compliance anywhere in the rear have the potential for wheel hop that Quads will help Reduce or Eliminate!

Thanks for all the imput. I heard of people having tire clearence problems with there quads thats why some take them of. Is this true? I also heard if you do have issues you can install the quads backwards and the tire will clear.

That's an internet myth with no factual basis. I've heard it repeated a dozen times but never backed up, but I have read a lot of accounts of people who wonder why they have wheel-hop after removing the quad-shocks. They are there to dampen wheel-hop and even aftermarket control arm rears (especially a good design that doesn't bind) can still benefit from quads.

This is true they do cause clearance problems with some tire/wheel combos. You can take turn them around because the skinny part of the shock will now face the opposite way allowing the tire to clear.

You can take them off, it won't hurt anything, may cause wheel hop, but if you don't race or show off with burn outs, you won't notice much.

A set of decent lowers should get rid of the wheel hop. I in no way want to engage anybody in an argument about quad shocks but there are a whole pile of cars that run 9's and 10's with a Megabite Jr lower arm and no quads on a 28 x10.50 or 26 x 10 MT ET drag slick. Usually it's the bushings and weak stock lowers that cause the hopping. When you run a stock suspension you most definitely need the quads. Once you run a traction bar (the lakewood slappers work but are outdated) or a good lower you should not get any hop. I would also recommend the aluminum spherical bushings if you are seriously drag racing.

Compliance in the Bushings gives the opportunity for wheel hop, if you take all the compliance out of the Upper and Lower Control Arms then you are going to put tremendous stress on the Torque Boxes.

So the controll arms that are on my car came on my car so I'm not sure what they are. I only know that they are aftermarket. Should any old bushing kit work no matter what ones they are?the ones I'm looking at are from texas mustang and they say rear upper and lower round bushings
