Wheels and tires! Falken

Old Bullits are out, new FR500 are in

17X9 FR500 wrapped in Falken Azenis RT-615
On the left, new 275/40/17 RT-615, right used up General Tire Exclaim UHP 245/45/17

Hopefully these tires will help me get traction. I pulled a muscle doing a powerslide, I wasn't expecting it to grip this much Tires are pretty quiet when you loose traction, there little or no tire screeching. Can't wait to go back to the track!

Yea, I wanted some wide 315s in the back, but no way I can afford it! There are close to 500$ CDN each up here, now way I'm paying that.

Add the weight of the wheel and tire, it will affect performance.

Best bet was 17X9 all around so I can swap the wheels around in case I have a flat (Cobra brakes with stock GT spare tire)

Nice! My buddie had those tires and loved them. They did wear out pretty fast though.

100$ Sumitomos FTW. I don't understand why people spend BIG bucks on expensive tires, all your going to do is burn them up anyway...The way I see it, buy cheap tires and that way you can burn them up and have fun with them without worrying about your checkbook.

Besides, most people don't have the kind of power to really warrant needing massive traction. So unless your autocrossing or something...I say, spend the money on cheap tires and spend the rest on mods that actually count and don't have a short life, like control arms or something...Not to be a wet blanket, but you could have spent less than half of what you spent on those tires AND have a nice looking staggered/deep dish setup with fat 315's in the back had you bought sumitomos. Yea, you wouldn't be winning any autocross events with them but in my opinion id rather have good looks and less anxiety about the money im spending everytime i do a burnout or a fishtail...

But hey, to each his own. Nice wheels and tires!!

Tires are what connects almost 2 tons of steel to the ground. Spending more money on tires is not a bad thing. It affects how you stop or how long the nose stays pointed in the right direction in a corner.

Take the same car and the same driver. Throw some $100 Sumis on it and see what he does in the quarter and again on the skid pad. Take them off and throw on some Pilot Sports or TA-KDWs. I would bet my left nut the quarter will be quicker and the cornering limits will be way higher.
I have watched it with my own eyes. Your tires are your control, without control a high HP car with a full blown suspension means squat. I have tried so many different tires its ridiculous. My RX-7 went from .99gs continuous in a corner with Michelin HX4s. I swapped on Pirelli P-Zeros and it pulled 1.07gs with no other changes and the tire size was identical.

Tires matter.

i also i have these tires they are pretty sticky after you break them in. you cant here them squeel when you break them loose...for cornering these tires are awesome..expect no traction if you nail it in first or second..good choice on a tire if you like corners

Right, but were talking daily driver here, like i said unless you are into autocrossing or you frequent the drag strip on a regular basis i don't see the point. Personally I have a second set of wheels with my drag tires on them so i can dog on my sumitomos and then put my drag tires on when im actually looking to make good times. I know if i bought expensive tires for DD duty i would drive like a grandma to help preserve the life out of them...and i just don't see the point in doing that. Mine-as well have fun with cheap tires for the street and not spend a fortune. Again this is just my .02 cents, im not trying to criticize anyone. And again Nice wheel tire combo!

Yeah, I could see that too. The new HTRZIII may be a bit better but my HTRZI sucked in the rain. I was in a very avoidable accident in a Fox because they locked up. Yes, Fox brakes suck andmore so in the rain but I couldnt even modulate them.
The Kumhos I had were way better.
My Mark VIII had Sumitomo HTRZIIs on it and I always thought the car handled like crap and couldnt stop worth a damn. Again, I switched them to Kumho AST or something like that. Really they only cost $3 morethen the Sumis but I gotta tell ya, they are 10x the tires. Even on the drag strip they hooked pretty well and the car pulled repeated 8.9s (1/8th).
Just for DD purposes they were way better. Better stopping, better through corners, lower tire noise and not as much variation on pressure between hot and cold.

Now with a blown and modified suspension Stang I believe a tire such as the OP got or BFG TA KD Sports or Nitto 555s are a better choice then the Sumis. Yeah they are more but ultimatly the car is safer because you are less likely to spin the tires or overpower then in a corner. Not saying buy Michelin Pilots or GS-D or PZeros, but a mid range tire is warrented IMHO.
Now the HTRZIII may be a better tire. I have seen them in person and like the tread pattern and the ruber feels like it should be a good comprimise of grip/wear.
Maybe I will try them and see first hand but the old HTRZs left a bad taste in my mouth

Personally ive had good luck with sumitomos. I ran a 13.9 with them when my car was bone stock except for an o/r midpipe and dynomax weld in mufflers. As emberassing as it is to say, i actually ran better times at the track with my sumitomos than my bf drag radials, granite, i probably didnt deflate the tires enough or get them hot enough but still...i think they are a decent set of tires, and im talking about the HTRZII's for the record...
