My buddy blew up his truck and they said that he cant rebuild it. I was thinking I should look into info on rebuilding my mustang when it blows or gives. I have a 94 GT with 116,000 on it.
It is a 5spd
I use it as a daily driver. I would like to keep it around for a few more years. When would I rebuild my motor or tranny? What would happen that would make it unrebuildable i.e. i would have to buy new units? How much money am I looking at? I would like to get more power but no so much that I have no gas mileage or wet weather traction. I have a K&N filter, basanni x pipe to flow master 10 series, up graded system, cobra r rims, tinted windows, 1800.00 viper extreme alarm, and a bunchg of other stuff.

My driving habits are usually 1-12 miles city, 5-50 sometimes long trip 300 miles high way. Thanks for the advice in advance.

First, welcome to :SNSign:

Now second, and on to the question at hand, you'd need to rebuild when you have some sort of mechanical failure, or your engine is physically worn out. I could speculate why your friend's engine couldn't be rebuilt, but it would only be speculation. It's not uncommon for someone to do modifications to their 5.0 at 100k+ miles and still have a great crosshatch pattern on the cylinders with 130+ psi compression on all eight cylinders. If properly maintained, they're pretty stout and resilient. You could be looking at varying prices, depending on what needs done on a rebuild, if you decided to go that route. Often times, a new shortblock can be had for less than a rebuild with better parts than the factory installed. By the way, we have a 94-95 section here on the site. ;)

My alarm is mounted all over my car. It is a viper brain that is way up under the dash attached to 3 hidden sirens (one is inside) my horn beeps, back up battery pack, ,sensors everywhere, it kills my starter and fuel pump. It took them pretty long to get it in.

I heard something about a 305 or 327 upgrade? What thes average life of a 5.0

What are the engine upgrade options like a 306 308 etc? Should I wait until it blows before I rebuild? Just for a ruff idea what would someone charge? thanks
