I have a 1998 GT. I dont think there is anything done to it. I have Ford Racing headers and thats it. What should I do for the best power? I plan on drag racing it on the weekends and driving it on nice days around town. I was thinking of about $1200. So let me know what to do. One more thing, my car is an automatic.

Welcome to :SNSign:

1. Gears, at least 3.73s
2. Transmission cooler
3. Chip or hand-held tuner to compensate for the 3.73s
4. J-mod (www.tccoa.com, click technical articles, click transmission, click
modifying valve body to Jerry's specifications)

That should get you off to a good start, welcome to the world of the ModularMustang

I would finish off the exhaust, o/r X, catback. Got to get the sound. Maybe a DiabloTuner to finish it off. You will still have about $200 more dollars to spend.

You going to do installs yourself, or do you need to pay someone?

1) Mid-pipe
2) Gears
3) Cams

I am just letting you know, do a search before you post and ask anything. There are about 1 million threads posted like this and some people will probably not seem to be that nice. I am just trying to save you from hearing it later. That being said welcome to the boards. My advice on mods would be 4.10s, a handheld tuner(sct xcal2 - notice i have a predator) Mid-pipe, and catback. That would be right around 1200. Oh and definitely spend the $50 and get a tranny cooler as mentioned above. It is definitely worth it.

Edit: PI Swap - It didn't register with me that you have a 98. After the PI Swap I would do everything I said.

I'll add a PI intake swap and a set of under drive pulleys to that list. And recommend that the 3.73's be shelved in favor of a set of 4.10's.

to elaborate, a PI swap is what we call the "power improvement" head, cam and intake swap for 96-98 4.6 2V. It will replace your crappy H/C/I with 99-04 PI H/C/I, and you will be putting down just as much, if not a bit more due to higher compression ratio, than stock 99-04 GT's. But I think you also have to run premium fuel at all times.

get stuff done in this order

tuner ( sct2) this will let you recal after gears

gears 4.10's ( wake that NPI auto up a little)

full PI swap

converter ( 3000+ stall), J-mod and trans cooler ( these mods are a must for a auto)

then after that do you normal stuff like off road x's and plenums and other stuff
