Where is this noise coming from?

I thought that I had an exhaust leak at the driver header to x-pipe connection. Took it to an exhaust shop to have new shoulderless studs put in to help tighten the connection, but they said that I definitly don't have a leak. The sound is more noticable when the egine is on the cool side and tends to lessen once warmed up. Usually hear it from about 2000 rpms to 2500 rpms. Could probably still hear it above those rpms but the exhaust gets louder after that. Sound can't be heard when reving in park. Only noticeable when under load at the above mentioned rpms. If it's not an exhaust leak, what is it? I really want to get this fixed because it is annoying the $%^& out of me!!!

Is it some sort of clicking sound

Could be your fuel injectors and you're just noticing them now. Our cars have some loud-ass ones. Also, it could be ticking heads, but i don't think the 99's had that problem, since we have Windsor instead of Romeo engines. MOstly the 01+ have the deadly ticking heads :p .

That service bulliten doesn't cover 2000 GT's right? I did eliminate the possibility of an exhaust leak at the driver's side header with spacerless studs. The noise is still there. My uncle (the mech. that works on my car) said that it could be the cam followers or other part(s) of the valve train. Any advice or experiences shard would be great!!! I have got to get rid of this noise. It is driving me nuts!

What did you have to tell them? Did they harass you about modding your car?

Damn, has your SES light come on yet?

No lights or anything. I was really hoping that it was just a leak, but that wasn't it. I have had my uncle tell me that there isn't a leak and an exhaust shop tell me the same thing. I had him put the studs in anyway just to be sure. It doesn't do it when you rev in park or anything. Just does it when you are under load. I can drive normal and never hear it but when you mash the gas down to get a load on the engine, you can hear it. Do you think that installing the catted x-pipe and frpp cat-back that I now have a lean condition? It's also louder when the engine is cool and isn't as bad once it gets to normal operating temp.

Mine does the same thing. I put the stock catback on and it doesn't do it. So, I think I need to get those shoulderless exhaust studs and tighten it down more. With it running on ramps and jack stands, I can feel air escaping around the driver's side collector and not the pass. side. Does anyone know a part number for the shoulderless studs?

Ford replaced my engine at 24000 for a collapsed bearing.I had no problems for about 10,000 miles, now I have a ticking noise again. It doesn't seem to be hurting performance, but it is really noticeable at places like the bank when I'm next to the teller window.Fastscorpio, did you have an extended warranty or were you out of it when they replaced it?I'm at 40K now, and if I could get a new engine and get rid of that noise, I may be able to hold out for the 06 Cobra

Is there somewhere that has the details on the TSB you mentioned? I clicked on the link in your note but it only took me to place that sells engines.
