Some of you might have seen my other posting regarding exhaust noise. Well I replaced the headers with BBK and found no leaks at the join nor did I find any at the exhaust manifold gasket area.

I used a tube to listen at the EGR tube mounting locations and along the tube it's self. The bolts are tight and the sound is come from a lower point.

In moving the tube that i am using to listen the noise gets louder when I get to the Upper Cat's It looks like I might have a leak in one or more of the cat's. I would not be surprised as i do have a few pin hole's in the mufflers.

Has anyone ever had cat's go bad and can you describe the noise you heard? It doesn't sound anything like a muffler leak but more of a pisst sound.

Anyway I think it's time to replace the H-Pipe but I can only find the performance BBK style H-Pipes. I know I could switch to an X-Pipe but that is not an option because I live in CA so I would end up having to purchase a stock H-Pip when it comes to smog check in the next couple years. I would rather do it right the first time.

Any Ideas on where to get a more stock type of it the cost no different? I am finding the bbk style for about $360.

Thanks for the help.

I would suggest pulling a stock H Pipe out of a junkyard, craigslist, ebay, or there's always an option of asking the local performance shop if they have a loaner stock H-Pipe.

Good luck

Frankenstang's got two sitting in her garage, right now. I'm sure she wouldn't mind parting with one of 'em...

WOW. Didn't know there were that many sitting around. I am in CA outside of Sacramento in the mountains. I could check on shipping costs if someone would be willing to ship it to me I could see about paying for the shipping in advance. I am sure there is a way for me to get it shipped with minimal effort on your part.

Any takers?

THANKS ! !

you can still get them new from ford, did you try that yet? atleast you could last year. but why would you want to put a factory catted h pipe on your car when you can get a catted h or x pipe that will still be legal in cali and flow better?

...because they're not the same and dependant on how picky your smog inspection station is, they can still fail you for having aftermarket cats. In many places, if the book says you're supposed to have 4 cats then you have to have all 4. It doesn't matter that the newer aftermarket 3 way cats are more efficient.

gotchya, i forgot about the whole by the book, that if it had 4 cats from the factory it still needs 4 cats. Its actually the same around here but they are not strict like out there in california.
