Hi all. This is my first post in the 5.0 forum. Hope you can help me with this. I'm installing an electric autometer cylinder head temp guage on my brothers 90 GT. Would you happen to know where the sender can be tapped into on the head?

Thanks!!!

do you mean an electric "water temp" gauge?

if so, the stock sending unit's location is on the front of the lower intake, to the right of the distributor (if i recall correctly).

by removing the sending unit and replacing it with the autometer sending unit, you will have a place to hook up your gauge. However, the stock gauge will no longer work unless you hook it up somewhere else.

i believe i've heard of people tapping the thermostat housing for either (stock or autometer sending unit) but that isnt as accurate of a location as stock. Just what i've heard.

my gauge hooks up at the stock location and my stock gauge is unhooked. good luck.

A cylinder head temp gauge is a cousin to the EGT gauge.

What kind of sender do you have? Some use a ring which does not need anything other than a plug R/R...............

Alternate placement for a temp gauge sender: Use the heater feed that comes off the intake manifold. Cut the rubber hose that connects the manifold water feed to the heater and splice in a tee adapter for the temp gauge sender. Be sure to use the same water feed line as the ECT sensor. That way you will get the most accurate temp readings.

Tee adapter info:
Make a pilgrimage to your local hardware or home supply center and get some copper pipe and a tee that fits the temp gauge sender. Solder two pieces of copper pipe onto a copper pipe tee with threads in the tee part. Find the correct brass fitting to match the temp sender threads to the tee fitting.

What size is the fitting??

I'm not sure where a good spot to drill and tap for a sensor on the head would be. Not really a whole lot of meaty areas.

I'm never even heard of someone putting on on a 5.0 before. You are one of the first i am aware of.
