Where were you on this morning 19 years ago?

I was at work in Toronto, Ontario. Our plant manager and operation manager where at JFK getting ready to board a 10 or 10:30am flight back to Toronto. It got cancelled. They returned to their hotel rooms (were still able to get them). My boss was sitting in his room watching on TV as the first tower fell, he turned his head and watched out the window. They finally got a car and made it back on Friday I think.

Driving to work - I heard a plane had hit the WTC but they didn't say what kind. I figured some little plane had crashed into it due to pilot error or mechanical failure, then I heard it was a commercial liner and assumed there was mechanical failure.

I was at work and we had it on TV when the 2nd plane hit. I still didn't understand right away WTF was going on. How could TWO jets crash into those buildings?

Finally someone said maybe it was a terrorist attack and it started to make sense. Especially when we heard the pentagon had been hit and the other plane went down in PA.

F*ck. It still pisses me off.

EDIT: Now that Mike when back and edited it... I was walking between band class on English, and it was my sophomore year in high school. Everyone except the band already knew what had happened, as we'd been on the football field practicing our performance for the upcoming game.

This wannabe anarchist/punk/goth kid (he was trying real hard to make up for the fact that he was the only one of any of those groups in that hick town) came running up to us, excitedly yelling that it was going to be anarchy, that the government was going down. Then I got to English, and the teacher had the TV on, and I saw the replays of the first plane hitting... and then saw the second plane hit and the towers collapse live.

Working on designing new version of US Navy deep sea submersibles. Years earlier had dinner in private dining room at the restaurant on the top floor of the WTC tower. Too much fog to see anything.

Hum.. I was painting a car, shocker.

My boss came over to the paint booth and said a plain had hit the WTC. I was thinking that’s a shame, but not the end of the world.

If y’all remember, a short time before this, a guy with a cessna had flown his airplane into an IRS building because he was pissed at them.

So my boss tells me that it wasn’t a cessna, it was a passenger jet! I finished clearing the car in the booth and went to look on his little black and white tv he had in his office.

We were busy, so back to work I went. Then Jay (my boss at the time) comes back and tells me a second plane had hit the south tower. What the hell?.........

I sat with ten other guys huddled around Jay’s little tv watching wtf is going on. Some poor souls were leaping to their deaths because of the heat, I assumed.

Then a plane hit the pentagon..... Another plane had crashed somewhere in the countryside. Then the first tower collapsed, oddly i was thinking what happens to these monster buildings when they no longer could be used? The second one fell.......Who knew how many lives had just been snuffed out? Those buildings must be able to hold ten thousand each, right? Jay said we could go if we wanted.

My tank was about empty, so I thought I’d gas up on the way home only to see a line of cars waiting to get gas. Everyone was sure the price of gas would go through the roof.

I went to the recruiting office because I wanted to be sure someone bad died for what was just done. It had been nine years since I got out. I was 39. The recruiter said 36 was the age limit........I wish I could describe that frustration.

My wife was still pregnant with my last child at the time, Anna. Maybe it was ”best” that I was too old to go back in.

So, nineteen years have gone by. Nineteen years. It can’t be, this just happened yesterday, right?

I was sitting on the couch watching Good Morning America,
I noticed after a few days of shock, people, I mean Americans had changed, they were polite, courteous, even sympathetic and most of all not in a hurry, that is until after the first anniversary, people have only gotten worse since then.
Just my observation.

I agree with that one too!
Nowadays, if I hold the door open for someone walking in or out of a store, they sometimes seemed shocked that I did it. I guess common courtesy is going away also!

I had finished a grave yard shift ( 10pm-6am), working as base police at a Navy facility. After getting off work I then had to go to the local Navy hospital for my physical. They'd call me back for height, weight then send me back out to the waiting room where all of the TV's were on. After my first trip back I returned to see the first tower burning and everyone saying a plane had hit and speculating what had happened. After my second trip back and return to wait we all sat and watched in horror as the second plane hit. I waited for quit some time in order to finish up and my final return was when the towers collapsed. I immediately drove home and the phone was ringing while I opened my front door. I was called back in and worked until 7pm that night. All civilian employees were hustled off base (except us of course!), we shut down the public road which ran through the base and set up sand bagged check points armed with M60's. I left there a month and a half later when I was hired by a local PD but had worked 12 hour shifts 7 days a week from 9/11 until I left. This was certainly one day which is burned forever into my memory.

History class, 8th grade. Watched it on T.V.

I day trade stocks nowadays and think 9/11 quite often. When i trade SPY and get real mad, i realize why they did it too. Someone fckd someone over and someone said fck you.

I was at work at 6am as usual,on the loading dock in Las Vegas,when the office lady called me into the f ront office as she knew I just moved from NYC .A plane crashed into one of the twin towers.As I watched the second hit.I called to wake up my wife and told her to call her aunt.my wife worked at tower 7 with her uncle Tony. No one here from him and then my father in law tells us my wife's brother James just started working there.Two full days and no news from either of them,my wife was beside herself.Third day her uncle was in the hospital,had a heart attack.Her brother James snapped ,locked himself in his room for a month,he thought everyone was a terrorist.He needed therapy. Fast foward, uncle Tony retired,brother in law James got married and has two kids and a house.We are a truly blessed family,and could neverforget!

Working my shift stocking the bread aisle at a local grocery store chain in OKC. The lady who worked the back room had a radio set to a local morning show. I caught a bit of their conversion that sounded like some weird skit they were doing. I finally got the gist of what was going on and called my mom on a pay phone (!); both towers had collapsed by then. I still remember her words, “the twin towers, mijo, they’re GONE!”

I finished my shift around 3pm, went home, and took in the remainder of the wall-to-wall news coverage. CBS news was still airing clips of the second plane hitting with unedited cursing in the background. Dan Rather was apologizing for the language.

It chills my blood just thinking about it. I’ll certainly never forget.

Had chemistry lab that morning in college but most of it happened before I went. I think the plane hit the pentagon while I was in there. Ironically my RA 2 doors down was from Afghanistan. He didn't appreciate the pictures (today would be called memes haha) of Bin Laden getting raped by a goat that I put on my door afterwards. I still remember on all the flags on the overpasses.

I was stationed in Japan. Returned from a very long day of work and the horrible news popped up on the television about the same time I sat down.

Deployed shortly thereafter... and numerous times since. Lost a lot of very close friends both in combat and after they returned home.

The next summer, driving into Chicago For a summer class and seeing the tall buildings, I was wondering about the wisdom of visiting a high density population target area. The instructors warned us about going off campus in one direction, especially at night, but the possibility of another attack was more of a worry to a number of us.

Driving my 1990 on to NAS Lemoore where I was the MMCPO of the 1st Fleet Super Hornet squadron. Rest assured we got some serious payback after this terrible day. Looking back 19 years later, wish we could've prevented all of it. The loss of life, the injury, maiming of our fellow veterans. I just shake my head.

I worked second shift, 4;30-1pm. I always got up at 10:30am. My phone kept ringing and my answering machine (LOL) kept recording calls from my Dad (RIP). He was frantic on the messages so I finally answered the phone. He was hollering about we're being attacked,turn on the news,etc. I did,and couldn't believe what I saw. I was watching live when that second plane hit. I kicked my legs out and fell flat on my ass from the couch,my hands on my head. I didn't leave the TV unless I had to pee. I drove to work,and ALL the gas stations had long lines,and the prices were WAY up. WTF is going on? Get to work and everybody is on edge,not sure what's going to happen. We did have a period of silence,which was very respectful. The best thing was.....everybody came together. Democrats,Republicans, didn't matter. SO much Unity. People had the American flags on their vehicles. People at work sewed flag patches on the uniform sleeves. We were ONE! I wish we would get back to that unity..........
