Which Aftermarket Hood Suggested??

I was wondering what everyone likes for an aftermarket hood. 1.5", 2", 2.5" or 3" high cowl hood?? Also do you recomend a steel or fiberglass hood?? My body guy mentioned that sometimes the fiberglass hoods have to be shaven on the sides so the lines match? I was looking on LRS and they make a nice 2" steel cowl hood, anyone have this steel one?. Also they have a Cervinis 2.5" or 3" iberlass hood.

Anybody have any of these steel or fiberglass ones? If so how do they fit and which one do you recomend?

HO Fiber Trends...........http://hofibertrends.com/. I have used these hoods and they require little to no modification at all. Excellent quality. As with any fiberglass hood, you will need hood pins to insure that the hood does not fly up at high speeds.

the boss inc stuff is great quality and its a really reasonable price wise. The frieght was also free with thier hood

The Boss Inc cowl hood are certianly quality hoods....but they're a lot taller than most. Their cowl hood is 3.25". It's a lot of hood. You had better have some business going on underneath it if you're running around with that on your car. Waaaayyy too much for my taste.
I wouldn't go more than 1.5-2.5" personally....but that's just me. Check out some of the Cervini's line up. Their quality is second to none. I also like the original Cobra R hood on a Fox body. Smooth lines, but not too high.

Throw a 5 inch, and cut a hole in it and stick your CAI filter through it. just jk

3" looks the best imo, big but not too much. Honestly fiberglass is fine, just some bad stories about them flying up, but as long as you got good hood pins and check the latches every couple of months youll be fine.

ive had a cervini fly up... but it was a latch issue .. now i always use pins. anyway, im partial to the 1.5" ram air. not too big, and its classic

I've been very happy with the quality and fit of the Kanaen hoods. They fit great right out of the box (at least on my cars) and are fairly priced. I like them so much I have the "ram air" style hood on both my Fox cars.

I agree with (93project) The 1.5" cowl is just right.

I had a fiberglass hood fly up twice on me, the first one was my fault, hood not fully lached. The second one was a WTF!! Cost me $1400 to repair on the second. Anyway the fiberglass hoods I had eventualy started to crack and web over time. So after the second hood fly up I went with a Goodmark steel 2 1/2 in. cowl hood. It is definatly a quality hood.

If you buy a quality glass hood you shouldnt have any problem with it staying latched

The two inch steel hoods late model resto sells are nice and there steel.so when you shut it sounds like a stock hood and I think the changes of a steel hood lasting are better and the weight of it should help keep it from flying up when driving witch is a problem with fiberglass hoods

Thanks for the info! Its a toss up between this steel hood and the ram air one ,which I can only find in fiberglass. my auto body guy said he likes the steel hoods better also.

It's not the weight of the hood that's the issue, it's the regidity. The fiberglass hoods flex and dance around in the wind placing continuous stress the latch area. Companies like Cervini's reinforce this section with steel to add strength....but they still "flutter" in the wind like any other fiberglass hood.

Curious if the steel cowl induction hood sold by LMR is reinforced on the underside like the factory stocker, or not? I like the weight savings idea of fiberglass, but HATE the look of hood pins. If the aftermarket steel hood was noticably lighter than stock, that might make it a viable option.

The steel cowl hood has the reinforced underside. It looks just like a stock hood from the bottom.

Jarrod, can you locate any pictures of the underside of the hood? I'm intersted to see what the cowl induction area looks like as well. I have a brand new Cervini's hood sitting in my basement, but I like the idea of a steel hood. When I bought the Cervini's, I had no idea that the steel 2" cowls even existed. Even the Cervini's fiberglass isn't perfect and will require considerable blocking to get it straight. It would be great to just be able to prep and shoot a steel hood.

I don't mind taking a picture and posting it up. I will tell you though, if your engine and intake combo doesn't clear a stock hood, then it wont fit with the steel 2" cowl since the bracing is the exact same. If you have your stock hood laying around, flip it over and that's what this cowl hood will look like. Some people will run the steel hood for looks, some get it and chop it up to "make" it work. Its all in what you want. If you NEED a cowl hood for clearance problems, then i would suggest staying away from the steel hood.

Give me a few hours to finish up some work and then ill take a trip out to the warehouse.

I appreciate it. I don't need the cowl hood for clearance. I just have a Systemax intake. Nothing else out of the ordinary that would stick up high. My interest in a cowl hood is for the air that is drawn into the engine bay through the cowl. I want to do whatever I can to increase airflow into the engine bay due to my turbo setup.

Well I can tell you guys the LMR steel hood does not add a lot of clearance but looks and fits great and could be modified for more clearance
