which battery to use?

does it matter how many cranking amps the battery has, to be used in our cars? like would it hurt to use a battery with 900 CCA, could it like short anything out if it has to much juice, someone told me that it could do that, thanks

well i work at autozone (unfortunatly) an they have a duralast gold with 900CCA for like 60 bucks plus i get my nice discount. that duralast has more CCAs than one of the optima reds top they have there.

its one of the smaller ones, i think like 900ca and 780cca, but its still decent. you shouldnt have any problems with higher cranking amps. the accy will only use as much as they need

I've heard lots of people having problems with their Optimas lately. For the money, you would expect ZERO problems.

I know of several people right now where the battery just went bad on them after several weeks/months of sitting.

Were they sure it went bad... Optima is a deep cell battery. It won't recharge in a couple hours like most batteries will (high amp charge) . It takes it a lot longer to charge back up... They are also know for having the ability of being drained and then being recharged multiple times without problems. The good thing is it takes an awful lot to drain them.. If it takes a lot to drain a battery then it takes a lot to charge it back up..

I have the bigger red top in my car now. I had to cut a little bit of the battery box to get it to fit and modify the bolt that holds it down. I put it in to help with my stereo.. (which i still need a couple farad capacitor)

I stand corrected, But a website i was reading on optima does say that if the battery goes below a certian amperage and voltage that it will not charge with a tricle charger.. I ran into this problem and returned one of them i had to find out that it was still good.

I would recommend their red top which is considered there starter battery. It charges quicker but still will last forever without a charge.
