Save for something else. But do get a K&N filter.

I've seen a lot of replies about using a K&N. Has anyone seen the new filters from Amsoil:

These are the the stock air box Ea Filters

And the aftermarket Universal Ea Filters

If you're interested in prices shoot me an email or PM. They are dry filters and reusable for 4 years or 100K. No reoiling, so no issues with oil possibly messing up the MAF. They flow as well as a wet gauze filter, but filter out about 50x the dust. I just put the stock one in my car last month, but then the universal unit came out. I've always wanted a CAI for the looks, and plan on using the universal filter on it.

So has anyone every used one of these from eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/....

I'm pretty sure I saw a straight shot somewhere there too, but couldn't find it just now. I'm leaning towards this setup so the filter can be seen when I work a car show and use my car as part of the display.

Do you have pics of this? Sounds interesting...

I got my FIPK II off eBay used for $50 to my door. Anything more than that & it would've been a waste of $$$. The biggest gain was how it looks under the hood, though!

i'll try to dig up some pics. it looks a lil ghetto, but hey, it gets the job done!

I'll be selling my one year old K&N FIPK in about a couple months cause I'll be installing my SC with new airbox soon. I doubt I would sell for $50 though. That thing was $230 brand new. I'll put it on ebay and see what happens.

On Edit: Here's a pic of mine.

I like my K&N FIPK. Makes a nice whooshing sound and it gave me a nice SOTP gain. I originally installed the drop in K&N filter and felt nothing. I then installed the FIPK and noticed a nice low-end gain with it. Just my $.02, YMMV.

I always thought intakes take away low end, but give it back up top

My FIPK gave me 3 hp on the dyno. So don't expect anything amazing -- BUT it looks good, sounds good and seemed to give a bit better throttle response. I got mine new on Ebay for about $50 less than retail.

true that. i paid $75 shipped for my FIPK II used. i did it so i could spiff up my engine bay and Finally be able to pop my hood at shows. no real noticeable gains. i actually felt a bigger SOTP gain from my custom ram air setup, which consists of a dryer hose from the bottom of the front bumper that runs up through the fender, and straight into the filter. better top end pull

Hey Derek, did you fab one simular to mine? And check your filter every 3K, mine is BLACK ONLY where the ram air blows on the filter LOL. I can pull the JLT RAI and bump the filter on the porch and leave a pile of bugs/dirt. 95% comes from the area the ram air blows on haha....and I too noticed a nice gain in 3rd+ gear.

Thread starter, go to www.jlttruecoldair.com and get either the JLT CAI, or the one I have, the JLT RAI. With the RAI you can easily create a ram air device that helps alot....its just like pulling the headlight at the track. Should be worth around 1MPH in the 1/4.

I can't explain why. All I know my 96 GT was bone stock completely down to the mufflers. I installed the FIPK and felt an immediate low-end gain. Top end was almost the same (crappy). I have read that a cat-back with cold-air intake will sometimes reduce low-end torque and increase upper range HP. That is what happened when I installed a MAC cat-back.

I have had the K/N FIPK CAI for three years and I did notest that the throttle responce was better and I could hear a air sucking sound from under the hood.It will only give you a 1-3 hp gain though. I do like my K/N FIPK CAI better than the ugly looking stock intake tube!

I had the FIPK on my 02(removed for blower). It is easy to install & maintain. Looks good. You will not notice any power gains. This is a good kit.

so to sum it up, spend your money else where unless you want a "bling" factor.

Yeah man, forget that Maf. The TB/plenum idea is good but you really need cams or FI to take advantage of that.

I'm about to add a little more power to my Pony and I did a search on here and read a few mixed reviews about the C&L MAF's. Some guys said they were good, others said they were junk, made out of poor quality materials and a waste of money.

My plan was to buy the C&L 85MM MAF W/CAI inlet pipe kit and keep the 85mm MAF in the box til next Spring and then install it along a C&L upper intake and Accufab 75mm TB and X-Cal2 or DiabloSport Pedator!

My other option was to buy a K&N FIPK. I've read and heard good things about them from guys at work who have them on their trucks.

What should I do?

C&L OR K&N FIPK???????

OMT, before someone says it, cause I know someone is going to, I'm also going to be installing a Flowmaster American Thunder II Cat-Back along with the CAI in the next week or 2.

No headers just yet, $ is kind of tight right now, and I'm still not sure if I'm going to go LT,Mids, or Shorties and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep my BBK o/r H or go with a MAC Pro-Chamber. I'll see how the Cat-Back sounds with the BBK H 1st. I already know that if I don't like it, I loved the way yours sounds Mossberg!

Definitely keep your BBK and put em with the flows first like you said. I can't decide if I like the H pipe setup or mine better.

I think I may order the H pipe section for my Prochamber and swap them whenever I feel the need to.

As far as the CAI. I just did the K&N drop in and I may remove the silencer. I will be getting my car to a dyno day soon to check my A/F and may make some slight adjustments to my XCal2 tune. The tune that Tim supplied is already awesome though.

I'm in between cities right now but I'll try to give you a call soon. I get to Atlanta tomorrow. I'm posting at work in Cleveland right now.

Well needless to say, I won't be buying a MAF, TB or CAI anytime soon since I'm going to be staying N/A for a while.

I've decided to go with a set of Shorties and F/M Cat back for now.

I already have a K&N drop in. Don't know why, but I never put it in my sig?

Thanks for all the responses. Saved me a lot of headaches and $.

We'll see how it sounds with shorties and the Flows, but I might have to go with a Pro-Chamber in the future.

Call me when you get a minute. I'm guessing you've been busy enjoying you 4.10's in Hotlanta.
