I'm pretty much done with intake modifications for now so its time to turn my attention to the exhaust. From numerous postings, I've become convinced that LT headers are far superior to shorty headers. Since I have an automatic, I've decided to go with Hooker LT headers. Because of their wide stance, you must use the Hooker O/R x-pipe (unless, of course, you want to radically modify another manufacturer's mid-pipe). By the way, who has the best price on Hooker headers? I found ceramic coated Super Competition Headers by Hooker for $694.84 at customracer.com.

My question is this: Is it true that the stock catback exhaust provides enough flow so that little performance is gained from aftermarket catbacks? Or is there an aftermarket catback exhaust system that provides significant gains without too much bark (loudness)?

There are several that say 20-25hp but that is putting them on a heavy built up motor to get those gains, with stock or closer to stock it will be much less. Realistic I would say 10-15 if that. The price for those headers seems high, I seen prices from cheap $150 to 500 and more but ceramic around 400ish I cannot say they were Hooker but L/T's. You will get more than sound for sure even if someone disputes my hp #'s.

Yea but I think the reason for the hookers is they will actually fit around a auto tranny, and they dont require removal to change a clutch. Im not sure what sounds good with them but ask 68 and 00gt. I believe thats his sn. Hes got the hookers.

Haven't you heard about the headers that are identical to the hookers in every way and sell for about half the price. The non-coated headers were like $247 on summit

Search for the thread the brand name and all is on the thread with part #. BTW, i wouldn't bother getting coated headers unless your getting them JET-HOT and then your looking at big bux. And besides do you look under your car everyday to admire shiny pipes? No i didn't think so.

yeah but they last basically forever, that's why everyone wants them -

01mgvert see my vids, and decide for your self. My headers are just coated Hookers, but honestly I'd get a different brand if you can. Hookers = leaky. I've somewhat fixed mine, but it's still barely noticeable. Don't expect much RWHP from a catback if your N/A. Catbacks really only help that much w/ a blower. But you do get the tips, and mufflers, pipes all as one kit that way. I'm sure you can get the mufflers, and tips seperately, and weld them in/on. It may be worth it just depending on what your RWHP goals are. I love my Magnaflow catback (not magnapacks) w/ Hooker LT's, and o/r X for exhaust sound. It's absolutely perfect (the little leak is not worth it to me to get different ones now though ) quiet and smooth at idle, and cruise, but screams at wide open throttle

I have the hooker headers and am very pleased with them. I haven't had any leaking problems. I made sure to put plenty of sealant around the slip fit section. The only slight problem I did have was the drivers side header was hitting the steering shaft slightly. I used metal washers to raise that side of the motor up just a little and now it is fine.

I have these headers with the slp catback and if you don't want it loud, don't get this catback. I like it, but it gets fairly loud both inside and outside the car.
