I am building a 4.6 for turbo. I was wondering which Dampner is best? I see a couple on ebay for different prices... How much difference can they make? Im open to all comments...
HAHA... I heard after market ones are better... Why would they make em if they werent... Weird... I am building A MOTOR!!! All new parts inside and they all are forged... So I jus wanna build it right the first time... I bought a billet trigger wheel... SFI dampner will that be good???

Well the crank I bought needs balanced and some machining... My car will see like 600 rwhp... I dont know if I will ever go to the strip or what not.... But yeah So If i got like a a dampner off ebay for like 80 bucks sfi certified im good??? I got a billet trigger wheel too!!!
Even with the same balance, an aftermarket dampener is most likely better over stock. Car manufacturers develop almost every component in the car, whereas aftermarket specialist companies focus on specific components, and so have much more R&D into it. The better you can dampen harmonic resonance in the crankshaft, the better the likelyhood that it will survive longer under more extreme conditions. I hear Fluidampr are best for street motors that stay under 7000rpm. Above 7000, ATI appears to be better. Stock is probably fine, but if you want to over-engineer, get an aftermarket one.
The stock damper is junk. It does not perform under heavy torque like when you install a KB. Look what happened to my stock damper few months after installing my KB...
get a romac. they are the best balancer so far for the 4.6. a good balancer is like good insurance. kinda like a billet oil pump gear. if they are that cheap off of ebay then something is more than likely wrong with it. they usually sell for 230 or 330. not 100%sure which one.
