Hey guys i have been on here for a few weeks. I love everything i have seen so far and love all the info i can get on here i appreciate it all. great job on all that guys and gals.

I although have a few questions that ponder around in my head since i started looking to upgrade the 95gt conv me and my g/f got. It's a AOD but i plan on doing a 5 speed swap. The car has 56k original miles on it. I just did all the normal mait things to freshen it up. My ques is i am wondering if i should go ahead and do a H/C/I then a blower or TT setup. Save the money i was going to spend on that and just swap in a Cobra Motor so i can have the 4v motor. Looking at the 99 Cobra b/c the S/C ones are too pricey for me. The do my mods from there. I want this to be a street driven car so i was thinking somewhere in the 300-400 to the wheels would be great more if i could get it. What should i do???? Thanks guys in advance for the help

I think if u want a mod motor, sell your car and buy one. Unless you have a great discount on parts and do all the labor yourself, its not gonna be worth it IMO.

Now, your goal is not very hard to attain....you could just bolt on a turbo kit and easily be at your goal. A healthy h/c/i can get into the lower 300's...blower can get into the same area. Its really a wide open decision for u to make...you gotta narrow down your choices.

Guys take different routes...some just slap the turbo on a stock motor, others rebuild themotor, then add the power adder. Your choice, unless there is a problem with the stock motor, i would jsut go right to the turbo...but thatsj ust me.

Check out Coast High Performance and D.S.S.

A 347 would give you a bunch more torque and well into the 300hp range with proper heads and intake. A good cam can up the power a good bit, but that'll depend on your needs. Just need a good tune when done.

I've seen the FRPP catalog with the Cobra and Mach1 motors that come complete with engine and tranny from oil pan to the intake. IF you really want to go that route, I'd suggest buying either a 96-98 GT or Cobra and then do the swap. There may be issues there as well, but other would know more. Not sure what all the differences are between the GT and Cobra from 96 to 98. Plus, I think the FRPP motor/tranny Cobra package is from the 2001 Cobra model, so maybe there are some significant differences if a swap were done to a 96/98 GT/Cobra?

If you've got the coin for a Cobra motor, go for a crate 347 with good h/c/i.

its sooooo not worth swapping a mod motor in the 94-95s. you have the pushrod, stick with it, be proud!!! anyway...i would looking into a crate engine from either CHP, DSS, or Kieth Craft. You could also go with a FRPP 347 turn key stroker. any of the above would get what you are looking for.

Then there is the blowers. You can go with either a centrifical or a roots. The vortech/paxton/powerdyne/procharger kind. IMO, get a procharger, it already comes with a intercooler. you can get vortechs fairly cheap used, and be around 300 on a stock motor pretty safely. roots blown like your kenny bell will give u more low end power but won't have the power the centrificals do up top. all in what you want.

turbos are fun, but a lot more work. with a mild tune, you could have some really nice power. check out turbomustangs.com for more info on that stuff.

then there is the nitrous route. do a H/C/I then slap some N2O on there and you'll have your 400hp with the spray and 300 without. this will probably be the most streetable becuase it will in escense be just a h/c/i, then just get it tuned to work with the nitrous.

For any of these, you WILL NEED TUNING! i don't care what anyone else says, you will need tuning on anything you do. may not be extreme tuning, but just some knowledgable person to guide you in making the car run and be safe/streetable.

Don't waste your money on a 4v the only real thing you can do to them is supercharge them. If you want to get new heads or cams for a 4v it is expensive and all they do is regrind and port and polish the old ones. I suggest doing a complete motor build. Get a 302 or 351 sportsman block and start building on that trust me you will get a lot more horsepower out of it.

I have a 331 from dss and I'm making almost 350 to the wheels. If you dont have to take emissions you could do an h/c/i on your shortblock w/ a good sized cam and a good tune and you could make prolly what I'm making.

I'm with the rest of the responses on here. No need to put down the money/work for the 4v Mod motor, when you can do so much more with the pushrod (Windsor based) engines. With the low mileage that your car has, I would look into a well matched heads, cam, intake package to install. And yes, have it tuned, no sense in wasting the engine with a bad (stock) tune. When you get tired/bored with the h/c/i combo, throw the nitrous/blower at it (and tune). Instant fun, and will still be really streetable. I'm pretty convinced that the tune is the important part of any modifications that you do. Good luck.

Trust me when I say this cause my best friend had a 99 Cobra and I drove it many times.

Your car with a 300 -325rwhp h/c/i combo will be way more fun to drive around town than if you went to all the trouble to get that Cobra motor in there.

And with this guys goals fellas its not needed to spend that much cash on the block. Sure it would be damn near invincible, but its not necessary for him.

Any stock block will be fine with your goals. Its just your choice on how u want to get there.

Slap a Vortech kit on there. Probably about 3500 ish total for parts and odds and ends, and then 500 for a chip. Stock idle, easy to drive on the street, but really rips when you lean into it. You'll be right on your power goal.

I looked at your original post one more time.

I'd get that stick trans in there first thing.

You will think you got a different car after that has been done.

After you do that, you may down size your objectives a bit.

That mod will change your perspective on the car.

I plan on doing the 5 speed swap as soon as i can get a couple more things lined up.I think from what guys suggest i will just stick with my low mileage 302 get a H/C/I setup follwed with a header and exhuast to make it flow right. Grab a chip and get a tune and i should be good to go. If i were to get bored with it. I can just slap a procharger on there with low psi. Thanks in advance again guys you have been such a great help. Hey does anyone possibly know if i can throw a set of lightning rims on my stang. My work has a set there 5x135 wehave a 5x4.5 which is about 20mm difference can i just get adapters do you think????

for what you are looking for, the 5spd swap and a good h/c/i combo will get you there. 300hp to the wheels is easily obtainable with a good h/c/i combo and a tune. with the low mileage your motor has, there is no sense in swapping it out or rebuilding it just yet.
