My current setup which you can see in my signature below or the factory cat pipe with the SLP Loudmouth Cat Back System? From the looks of the SLP system it looks nothing more than pipes and a small glasspack on each side. If anyone has any input on the brand, quality, and sound pertaining to that system it would also be appreciated. Thanks

I absolutely LOVE my Bassani cat-back, esp. with the headers. It sounds just a tad louder than stock at idle, but when you open it up GEEZZZEEE!!!! I must admit, I'm one of those guys that goes down a gear whem I'm next to a concrete barrier on the freeway--the sound is intoxicating. The only improvement is going to be the Bassani x-pipe. I've heard that setup on an '04 Cobra and it sounded like NASCAR on steroids.

I don't have em myself, but I know of several guys who got them on a group buy. They all said the materials and workmanship were top notch. Most liked the sound and said it was pretty wicked. Some said they were the loudest things they ever heard. SLP has been in the chevy scene for some time. They only recently decided to enter the ford marketplace when they stopped making camaros.

yeah i don't have much doubt that it will be loud, especially considering the size of the mufflers (looks very much like a glasspack). I am just wondering if it will sound louder than my magnaflow (not magnapack) catback matched up with my bassani offroad pipe. Luckily the SLP setup is pretty inexpensive so it wouldn't be such a disaster if it didn't work out in the long run. People keep saying how rediculiously loud it is but with my factory h pipe (california edition) I have SIX cat's on my car so I bet it would balance out pretty well and not be as loud as a harley.

I had slp/stock h and now have magnaflow/off road x, and I would say the slp/stock is louder.

I have just the SLP catback with factory mid pipe. I like the sound myself. It is different than the Flowmaster setup that all the stangs in my area have. It is loud, but could be louder with a o/r mid pipe, which is what I plan to do next. The fit was great, and the quality of it is awesome. I love the tips as well.

Oh one more question: Does the SLP catback require any welding at all for the install or is it all bolt on and clamps?

SLP catted X/Borla stinger catback

This might be a bit off topic but here it goes anyway.

I drove my car with the stock setup and a borla catback for about a year until I finally decided that I wanted it to be louder.

I got the catted X from SLP and the sound is LOUD!! And the workmanship is excellent.

Just my 2 cents.

The first thing I did was add the slp c/b. Then put on the slp o/r x and the problem was not so much how loud it was but the raspy tone, I just didnt care for it. So I sold the slp c/b and bought the magnaflows, and honestly was disapointed at first, but after a litte time they got louder but its still to quiet. The slp & stock h sounds awsome IMO. To do it over again, I would probably keep the slp c/b and get a good catted mid pipe. The slp tips are much nicer than the maggies and slp sends real nice band clamps with the kit.

Had the SLP catback on my 03 GT with stock h-pipe. Excellent quality. Sounded Ok but I was not totally satisfied. Sounded like old school glasspacks at wot. Figured it would sound better with an MRT catted h-pipe. It was very very loud and sounded like ass. Immediately went to a local muffler shop, cut out the resonators and welded in flowmaster mufflers. Sounded really good.

well i am trying to make my life easier as I get older and with smog checks out here in California the only legal midpipe is the factory one. So with that in mind thats why I was asking about the SLP catback with the stock midpipe. I am hoping to keep the ballsy sound in a smog check legal way and from what I have seen the SLP seems to be the loudest with the factory H. I would like to avoid flowmaster only because I had it on a firebird once upon a time and IMO the quality lacked (don't get me wrong, i like flowmaster its just not for me). Anyhow I ordered the SLP loudmouth catback last night and it was shipped out this morning so once I get it set up I will give you the official results as to which is louder and which sounds better to me.

You question was "which is louder? I would say that it's a close call. If you were to go with an o/r x pipe and the SLP Loudmouth, then that would be the loudes by far. I have the SLP Catted X and the SLP catback and my setup is probably louder than yours.

Also, the SLP does not have galsspacks. They are simply resonantors. There is nothing in the pipe.

With the stck H pipe, the SLP is the loudest of any other catback out there. It is loud, but also easy to drive quietly.

Sorry, but this makes no sense to me. First of all, the whole idea of the SLP is to make the car sound like "old school" glasspacks. That's the point.

Secondly, why on Earth would you ever have cut the resonators off of a perfectly good catback? Wouldn't have been more sensible to just remove the catback intact and sell it?

Thirdly, the only mid pipes that work right with the SLP Catback are the stock H and the SLP Catted X (and also the o/r SLP X). They are the only ones that seem to sound correct. Keep in mind, the resonators are placed precisely in the correct location. Altering the mid pipe to something other than what was designed alters the sound.

The SLP has no depth as far as the sound goes.
