Im about to finish the installation of a new DIN unit in my mustang, and I need to know the amperage of the fuse that I need to run from the ignition ACC terminal to the main lead of the stereo; I read that stock radios used a 7 Amp fuse, so I guess the one I need should be of higher?

I know the stereo has its own fuse, but I need to put in another one to protect the wiring, right?

how many watts does your stereo put out? that's what will determine how much juice it takes in, which ultimately tells us what size fuse you need.

You are right, in fact am taking an electric circuit analysis class, now I can apply that to real life

The stereo has a max output of 50W x 4, so at most would be 200W, that divided by the voltage which is 12V, results in 16.667, so I need a 16 Amp fuse?

u usually only need an inline fuse between the battery and an amp, if your head unit is only putting out 50X4 max, or like 15 RMS, the one in the back of the head unit will be sufficient
