Ok, I have 206,000 miles on original block (only changes are in sig) and think my balancer is going...how do I know for sure and do you have any recommendations on a replacement (I plan to build a 308 or 331 in a year when I return from the litter box) that will work now and with my new engine. Thanks.

I would just get a factory replacment...they can be had for around $70 bucks...and then get you a nice one when you get the new engine...I believe the stock OEM ones are 28oz right?

If you want an awesome balancer and don't care if it's expensive then look at a Fluidamper. They're SFI approved and good to like 10,000 rpm I believe. There's other cheaper SFI approved balancers too. Ford Racing makes a stock replacement (non-sfi) balancer that is good to 6500 rpm and is around $100.....thats all I need so thats what I'm gonna get.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!! All 302/5.0 from 1982 & up are 50.0 oz-in imbalence.

Just get a stock replacement. Why do you think it's gone bad?

50 oz. also, you asked about checking it.

look at the elastomer - is it cracked or squeezing out? does the balancer wobble? when you time it, are the timing marks off (indicating a slipping outer ring)?
if you have the slightest doubt, get a new one.
good luck.

Yeah, your stock 5.0 takes a 50oz. balancer..just pick one up at your local autoparts store for a little over 100 bucks ...

... when you go with a 331 you're gonna need a 28oz. balancer.

the imbalance a motor uses is not something that is like a conventional mod, per se (you dont at some point need to upgrade to a lighter imbalance [while having made no internal motor changes], as one would fuel injectors).

the flywheel and balancer imbalance are suited to work with the motor internals (mainly crank). so unless internal work has been done, later model foxes should be a 50 oz imbalance.

the main reason people have to use different imbalance is that they are using different cranks in their strokers - that is where 89CC was going.
