Which header, Hooker or MAC

I can't spend more than 400$. I'm stuck between picking the Hooker 1 3/4" longtube headers 400$, part#6227HKR which are not coated or the Mac 1 3/4" long tube headers which are ceramic coated for 380$. So what do you guys think I should go with?

I have a set of mac lt's on my car and the fit wasn't great. I ended up having to kink one of the tubes to clear my steering shaft. Other than that mine sealed up pretty well so I really couldn't complain.

Tough choice... Given the differences between ceramic or non ceramic... I would reluctantly get the MAC ceramic over the Hooker non ceramic. Fitment may be an issue but at least it will last longer.

That's the problem I'm having debating. I was thinking I could possibly get the Hookers and coat them in the future when I have extra money laying around or should I go with the Mac's allready coated and save the money?

MAC headers are pretty much a 1 time use system due to the individual flanges for sealing. I would always choose the ceramics over the regular but that is just me.

It'll be up to you to determine if you want to buy the MAC's and then probably throw them away when you need to unbolt them from the motor.


BTW: My car has MAC shorties on it and they seal OK. I have had problems with exhaust leaks, but they were on there when I bought it.

I bought my hookers used off ebay for $125. They fit very well, one primary even goes around the outside of the steering shaft, but I had zero issues with them. If you found a deal similar to mine you could have the hookers coated and have the best of both worlds.

Well, someone just told me that nobody makes a mid pipe for the Hookers 6227HKR. Is this true. So are you supposed to get a coustom one made.

hookers. Look into painting them with por 15 high temp exhaust paint.

I like the Mac stuff. For about $300 you can get their 1 3/4 shorty which has the nice coating. This is a high quality piece for Mac. The set I had was Bassani quality fit & finish.

Use Bassani equals, that's my opinon, i know they are not on your list, but sounds like you don't have the mid pipe anyway. Bassani headers are for life.

You buy mac headers and it won't be your last header purchase.

I don't know much about hookers.

I don't remember whether I had Hedman or Hooker equal length's on my Fox, but the fit was TERRIBLE to say the least. I swear the flanges were crooked and warped right out of the box. I've really never heard anything bad about Mac headers, except when they're the individual flange design. Once they've been through a heat cycle, they warp, so if they're taken off, they're a PITA to put back on.

Call and ask with regard to the mid pipe.
I would not be suprised if the 6222 Header mid pipe fits.
