Which intake is better?

New - $600

Used in GOOD shape - $400-500

Crappy shape - $300

The Cobra and Explorer intakes will make just as much power as the GT40 and they cost less.........there's an Explorer on ebay right now for $204 buy-it-now price.

I got a polished Typhoon intake used on E-bay for $175, it was in great cond. and I matched it to my AFR 165's as per tmoss's site when I rebuilt my motor longtubes, F.M. 3 cambers, 73mm c&l, 24#'s 65mm TB, tfs #1 cam, plus bolt ons from old motor pullies ect...
Broke T-5 (wasn,t even driving it hard) plus I'm chasing a timing grimlin..Looking for 300-325 RWHP??

The typhoon runners are smaller than my gt-40x aluminum heads by quite a bit, so it worked well. I will be porting and polishing the casting out of it and matching it to the heads. The gt-40 is overpriced, but i would buy it used for 400 or less. also, the typhoon doesn't come ewith the plate under the pcv, so oil can be forced into your intake if you don't do something about that.

No oil baffle on the Typhoon...brilliant.

I wonder how many have installed the intake unaware of this and wonder why their engine is using oil?

Junk!

I`ve read the BBK SSI intake likes sucking oil up the PCV as well.
What`s with the aftermarket?:notnice:

They expect you to move the one over from your stock intake.

Tom,

All the Performer EFI intakes come with the rear baffle. (At least the ones I sell!) It's in the bag of goodies along with the other hardware. You just have to install it yourself. They even give you new rivets for it...

As for the Typhoon and new Asian Cobra... Buy Edelbrock!

Im pretty much doing the same thing as you. I have a set of gt40p heads sitting in my garage. I bought an explorer intake and put it in myself. When buying an explorer intake there are quite a few things you want to look for that will make the job ALOT easier. You should read up on them. I got my explorer intake for 200 bucks and it looks brand new, cant beat that price. And its the same thing as the cobra intake.

Now to compare the cobra to the typhoon, I asked myself this question not too long ago, and the decision was pretty simple. The typhoons' runners are not as along as the cobra/explorer intake making it a higher rpm intake. I was looking for off the line action, more torque, so I went with the explorer. Like said before forget all the "its made in china" bull****, look at your budget and pick the one that fits your application, do you want more low end torque? Or hp up top. The typhoon is a good intake but I agree it may need some work done to it to make it just right for your combo. If you get the explorer it will also need some work done to it, If I were to go back and do my intake swap again, Id just go ahead and buy a new cobra intake from frpp and call it a day.

As for the swap, id do the heads first, I really didnt notice a big gain with my intake, I will say it pulls alittle faster down low, and my et's went from 13.5 to 13.3, but still not as good of a gain as I was expected. Buy all the gaskets cause your going to have to anyways, and when you do the heads, instead of putting your stock intake on, just put the cobra on. The intake will be a nice mod, but with the stock heads itll be choking and you really wont "feel" a difference.

Thanks Ed, they never seem to get sent with the intake for me to work on I guess. It is SOOOO easy to make them out of galvanized and drill/tap a couple of 1/4-20 to hold them, I don't see why it should be an issue any way.

I had to transfer the oil shield from the stock intake to the Performer, which I bought new in a sealed box. I was a bit disappointed but it was no big deal since I did not plan on reusing the stock intake. Those tap-in rivets Edelbrock supplies seem like they'd be a pain to remove if I ever wanted to transfer the oil shield back.

That is an intake I've been growing very interested in lately..some really good test results have been noted lately. I would very seriously look at the GT40 if I were to do it again, it really seems to work well across the board.

Agreed i read about the typhoons, i was gonna put it on mine, i have gt40 heads but im not taken my holly off.. ive heard great things aswell tho...:nice:
