Okay, I'm long overdue for a new shifter. I've got a 69 console shifter with an AOD. What's a good shifter to go with? I know I want at least a partial ratchet shifter. What ones will work on the AOD? How easy/hard are they to install? Thanks!

As far as I can tell, nobody makes an aftermarket shifter that fits a 69 console.

From the installs I've seen, you can make a B&M Hammer fit with a bit of massaging of the console and the shifter base. It looks ok, but like all those aftermarket shifters, it looks bulk and doesn't quite "fit in" the way the original shifter does. This is one of the reasons I haven't gone to a ratchet shifter yet. I think if you want something with a similar look to the original, you might look at the Quicksilver. I was going to buy a couple used parts shifters and see if I could convert the stock shifter to ratchet action. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time and I found that even really butchered ratchet shifter sell for more than I'm willing to pay. Anyone got an old one lying around they wanna sell for $10?

Hope this helps... Good luck! Oh, and if you do install one, post pics.

I came to the same conclusion, in part after soliciting advice here. My plan is to pull the OEM console, eBay it, and put in either a humphugger and a floor mount Megashifter or see if anything fits the full length humphugger cruiser console.

I jsut realized I don't even have a console. It's just a hump in the floor. I don't know if that's original or not. Beats me...

Go with the B&M Megashifter then.

I concur with the statement offered by the right honorable gentleman some moments ago.
